I've had that happen before. I went back to Barnes and Noble and told them that I collect these, and the condition the copy was in was unacceptable. They called the manager and he gave the okay to order in a replacement copy.

I've had a few problems with loose discs as well but B&N are always top-notch with their service IMO.

For fans of the Criterion DVD of The Most Dangerous Game, here is my review of the Flicker Alley Blu-ray edition.

Short version: This Blu-ray soars above and beyond the Criterion standard definition presentation in terms of the transfer, and I never imagined that The Most Dangerous Game would look this beautiful.

I love this film with all my heart, and the Blu-ray was worth the expense ten times over.

Barnes & Noble My B&N haul for Sunday, November 24, 2013

I successfully used the 30% Mastercard coupon on a Criterion title today (The Complete Monterey Pop Festival)! Total price after the MSRP of $69.99 was $22.04 (plus tax).

Here's the full haul:

The Complete Monterey Pop Festival (30% coupon + 10% member discount): $22.04 (+ tax)
3 Women ($5 off $50 coupon + 10% member discount): $16.40 (+ tax)
Tokyo Story ($5 off $50 coupon + 10% member discount): $16.40 (+ tax)
Kicking and Screaming (DVD) ($5 off $50 coupon + 10% member discount): $12.30 (+ tax)

Overall, an excellent day of savings and satisfaction at B&N!

Oh how I wish I had a B&N nearby...

I just finished up the last of the 3 DVD only releases from the 2nd BN order I received last week.

Night Train to Munich
Green for Danger
Thieves' Highway

I loved all 3. I'd say in the order above would be how I'd rate them with Highway being my favorite. All 3 were well made, had great stories and the run time just flew by! (the mark of a well made movie IMO). All had great endings, I don't think I've seen a more satisfying ending in a long time than I did with Thieves' Highway. All 3 would make outstanding candidates for BD upgrades.

That's amazing! I might swing for the Zatoichi or Lost and Found sets then!

.The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp was amazing. And the picture quality was transcendent - one of the best I've seen on the Criterion label.

I also loved Scorsese's introduction (haven't had time for the other extras including commentary). I was thinking of that question 'who would you have dinner with living or dead' - I could never pick one person but one of a handful of people I would dine with is definitely Martin Scorsese. I seriously want to talk film with him.

.La Notte was interesting but will take another viewing to truly appreciate - as is always the case with Antonioni for me. Beautiful black and white visuals.

Out of interest, when you say "+ tax", how much does that end up being on say, a $20 blu/dvd? Coming from a country where sales tax is included in every price, so the concept is new.

its supposed to be a generic coupon for all customers. if you're a member, they'll give you an extra 10% off.

i just got back from B&N, picked up the rossellini/bergman set for $38: 50% off sale, 10% member discount, 20% off coupon.

cashier was not the gentleman with whom i usually deal. basically, the ability to use the coupons on top of the sale price all comes down to the cashier. she was hesitant at first, saying it wouldn't work in conjunction with the 50% off sale. she even rang it up and said it was being rejected.. i rebutted that i'd called in earlier in the week and was told it would work. lo and behold, she tried again and it went thru.

I would put Scorsese up there as well. Every time I buy a film that includes an introduction or interview with him, it's usually the first supplement I go to, especially if he's speaking about a film he isn't the director of.

It varies from state to state so there is not one definite answer.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sales_t...#Summary_table (General tax)

So it says Alabama is 4% so that would be 80 cents on 20 bucks.

Definitely going to be on the lookout for other things by him in relation to films not directed by him in the future.

Truth be told, I enjoy Scorsese's viewpoints about other movies more than I enjoy his own movies. I love many of his films, of course, namely Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, and Raging Bull, but I also have subdued reactions to most of his works, and I tend to respect Scorsese's movies more than I actually enjoy watching them. Whenever I stumble across a Scorsese commentary, a Scorsese film introduction, or a supplementary extra with Scorsese's input, though, I'm always eager to check it out first.

Same here. I used to love Scorsese's movies, but I haven't liked a single one since Goodfellas (of those I've seen), and even that film has seriously lost its luster with repeat viewings.

But I still think his knowledge and viewpoints about film and film history are with parallel. A Personal Journey with Martin Scorsese Through American Movies is one of my favorite Criterion laserdiscs.

That 20% coupon says that it doesn't qualify when I tried to place an order with BN tonight for Roberto Rossellini collection. I online chatted and got cutoff by two people. BOTH got timed out because they didn't get back to me soon enough. The second time it time out because they went offline without helping me. I'm going to call those sobs in the morning. The coupon will expire before customer service is open in the morning. I will never purchase from them again if they don't honor the dam coupon.

Those coupons won't work online but you might get lucky at the store.

Why? They emailed me a coupon code for online use a few days ago. I don't have a BN in my area.
