Currently freezing my ass off, waiting for record store day. Store opens in 27 minutes. Can I wait that long for my records? At 7 I'm gonna watch a screening of The great escape. Now you may be asking, what does this have to do with Criterion? Well, if I have time, I may catch up my Criterions. Overall, it'll be a pretty good day

Certainly an appropriate reflection to have around Thanksgiving.

Oh Scheitenhausen! I have 4 separate parcels arriving from B&N and now worry what I am going to end-up with!

Never use superlatives but I think this is the best packaging in the whole collection. In fact, this might be the best box set I own right now. It's attractive, smart, and easy to rummage through. And it makes you want to watch the films.

And on top of that, the films are really the biggest draw.

Thrilled here in my French-film-loving heart. I'd second Blu Titan--if at all possible, snag this one during the sale. And then there's the 30% more coupon that's good thru this weekend.

absolutly my concern as well. so far every movie arrived in a single parcel. but i did order them togheter.. so i might end up with 10-20 parcels and will have no idea if they arrive somewhere in tokyo oder france instead of my place...

outside of the parcel is a price tag "19.99$ disc" , and in the parcel was a 6.99$ cd for someone else. so i might have ended up with the cd instead of the bluray that was acutally meant to be in there.

When I got home last night after spending most of the day with family, I revisited Paris, Texas. This movie inches higher and higher on my all-time favorites list every time I see it, and it's one of the most beautiful Blu-rays out there in terms of transfers of color films. The cinematography is simply out of this world. I always get a little emotional at the end, regardless of how many times I see it. This is the best 1980s movie in the Collection.

I'm content with the Criterion films in my collection right now, at least until the December releases roll out, so I used my Barnes and Noble Black Friday coupon to order A Streetcar Named Desire. I'm thinking that a double feature with On the Waterfront may follow.

I've only seen Streetcar once and I didn't care for Vivian Leigh's performance in it - seemed way over the top. I do love her in Gone with the Wind though...

I still have not got around to purchasing Gone With the Wind on Blu-ray. Considering that I'm a lifelong native of Georgia, this is an epic fail.

I caught wind of another restoration of the movie coming out at some point in the main forum, so I guess I'm waiting for that. I'd love to see it again, because it's been a while.

With respect to Vivian Leigh, I really hope that Criterion upgrades That Hamilton Woman at some point. Leigh is lovely in the film, and the naval battle scenes are worth the price of admission as well.

I just finished watching The Maltese Falcon...again. This is one of the top contenders for most repeat viewings on Blu-ray from my collection.

I just bought the digibook of Streetcar for BN during their 50% of classics sale. I love this movie! A very young Brando giving a masterpiece of a performance. It's easy to see so early on that he will be, and is, one of the greatest actors of our time. I love Vivien Leigh's performance as well. And while I've never seen, Gone With the Wind *gasp*, her performance here does want me to give it a chance. I've always viewed the movie as just 3 hours or her character whinning, but I know in reality it's quite a bit more. And being from the south, I get a "F" in being a good southern for not seeing GWTW. And finally, Elia Kazan's directing really sets this movie apart.

Anyway.. I do love Streetcar and can't wait to sit down and introduce another classic to my wife. Hoping she'll love it like I do.

There is no possible way to make Gone With the Wind look any better than it does currently. The bluray out now looks unreal.

In my opinion, greatest Bogart movie, hands down. I love Casablanca, Treasure of the Sierra Madre, and To Have and Have Not, but The Maltese Falcon has it all. I think it's the fact that it is such an incredible example of film noir. I first saw it in a film class in college, and have loved it, and film noir ever since. I really need to add it to my blu-ray collection.

I've seen Gone With the Wind a few times in my life. I have to say that, as much as I love Vivian Leigh's performance, I always fall head over heels in love with Olivia de Havilland every time I see the movie. She was really something else, and she was a big reason why The Adventures of Robin Hood was one of my first Blu-ray purchases.

Speaking of Elia Kazan, I've got Panic in the Streets sitting in my big stack of film noirs that I'll be going through for the next month or so, starting tomorrow.

I saw Elia Kazan's Wild River a couple of weeks ago, and was blown away. It's a beautiful Blu-ray of an underrated movie. If you are a fan of Lee Remick (Anatomy of a Murder), then I especially recommend this one.

I keep hearing great things about the existing Blu-ray, but there is a thread in the main forum about a newer one coming out soon, and my curiosity is aroused.

On the other hand, the existing Blu-ray is quite inexpensive for such a big film.

I don't know what your preference in films is, but the Qatsi films essentially are a series of images set to music. I watched Koyaanisqatsi some years ago, and while it looked good, I got bored fast especially of the Philip Glass score and I would never consider revisiting it again.

The film noir aspect of The Maltese Falcon is the big reason why I wanted to watch it today.

I'm starting my "film noir marathon" this weekend, consisting of the following Blu-rays that I've purchased over the past couple of months...

[Show spoiler]Film Noir Collection (Union Station / Appointment with Danger / Dark City / Rope of Sand)
The Big Combo
A Double Life
Plunder Road
Private Hell 36
Crashout
Force of Evil
Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye
Cry Vengeance
The Postman Always Rings Twice
(1946)
Panic in the Streets
Scarlet Street
The Stranger
The Hitch-Hiker
They Made Me a Fugitive
City That Never Sleeps
Shack Out on 101
The File on Thelma Jordan
Hoodlum Empire
Cloak and Dagger
Secret Beyond the Door
Hell's Half Acre
Ruthless
Body and Soul
Champion
The Dark Mirror
Suddenly

December will be a great time to enjoy these movies, and I am predicting that the above discs will make fine editions to the film noir (or film noir-esque) titles that I've already viewed on Blu-ray.

[Show spoiler]The Maltese Falcon
The Enforcer
(my favorite cover art of any Blu-ray in my collection)
The Night of the Hunter
The Killing/Killer's Kiss
Ministry of Fear
On the Waterfront
Laura
Sunset Boulevard
White Heat
Kiss Me Deadly
Rebecca
Strangers on a Train
Shadow of a Doubt
Notorious
Spellbound
Niagara
The Big Heat
Sweet Smell of Success
Two Men in Manhattan
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
(The 1956 version follows many noir conventions.)

...in addition to several impressive neo noir flicks, such as Chinatown, To Live and Die in L.A., Heat, and No Country for Old Men.

I've been told that Pale Flower is a good Criterion title for people like me who are interested in film noir, so I may be picking that one up at some point in the not-too-distant future.

It goes without saying that I cannot wait for Rififi and Thief to come out on Criterion Blu-ray in January, nor can I wait for The Big Sleep.

Now that's a collection I'm jealous of... and I think I may need a noir marathon soon myself. And I'll have to check out Pale Flower.

On a side note, I was looking over the cast of Wild River and saw that Montgomery Clift is the leading man... which got me thinking that I'd really like to see what Criterion could do with This Misfits!

If you like Montgomery Clift, then I highly recommend the recent Blu-ray release of From Here to Eternity. It's quite a remarkable disc in terms of the film itself and in terms of the goodies.

The Misfits will probably land in my collection in 2014. I've thoroughly enjoyed the Marilyn Monroe films that I checked out so far (Some Like It Hot, River of No Return, The Seven Year Itch, Niagara), and am gradually working my way through all of them and taking my time.

The Asphalt Jungle is the one that I really want to see on Blu-ray, though.

That's a great goal for the future, along with the Mickey Spillane stories.

Bonhams just had a film memorabilia auction and the star attraction was The title prop used in the film. Sold for a bit more than $4 million!
