I really doubt Paramount will need to restore it at all - the Film Foundation restored it in 2010 and I think it was done in 4K. That's what's presumably on the Australian Blu-Ray (but I don't have it yet and haven't seen any reviews either).

I am glad that some film viewers still appreciate this fantastic film, in college the only way to see the film was through a beat up VHS copy. Last edited by Fellini912; 01-04-2014 at 08:05 PM. |

That sounds exciting, damn ... now you made it difficult for me, hell i'll get both.
![]() I will for sure, but it'll take time as shipments from Australia take forever to arrive. ![]() Someone from the Aussie forum, said the A/V quality is very nice and I hope he's right. ![]() |

I was fortunate enough to see the print when it toured a few years ago. It's immaculate. Whomever releases it won't need to do any clean up.

I don't know that for sure but, as the French, Spanish and Japanese Blu-Rays did, I'd be disappointed if they didn't!

I visited the Trevi fountain during the day, years ago. It is actually nicely hidden and gorgeous; it must look beautiful at night. If it were not for all tourist walking towards it, I would have not found it. Although Via Veneto was not as impressive as in La Dolche Vita (I guess it was, back in its day)
I was more impressed by the Fountain of the Four Rivers by Bernini in Piazza Navona where I had diner that day. |

La Vie de Bohème Blu-ray Review
![]() One of my very good friends on the site also helped me get Aki Kaurismaki's earlier film, I Hired a Contract Killer, on Blu-ray from Finland. (A good number of the Finnish director's films are now out on Blu-ray there). The transfer is very nice. ![]() ![]() Uploaded with ImageShack.us Pro-B Last edited by pro-bassoonist; 01-04-2014 at 08:56 PM. |

Yes, definitely, 1.66:1 is the correct aspect ratio. At this point, however, unless you can attend a theatrical screening somewhere Lovers... has to be experienced on a great Blu-ray. I have that Arrow DVD release, and even though it is clearly superior to the Miramax release (totally different color scheme), the transfer is average at best by modern standards. This film has some absolutely amazing photography -- everything was filmed on the real Pont-Neuf, one of Paris' true landmarks -- and the colors, light/shadow balance, etc., simply do not look right on the DVD. (The sequence in the subway where Binoche and Lavant burn the posters should look magnificent in high-definition). By the way, there is another very beautiful film with a bridge in the title: Patrice Leconte's The Girl on the Bridge, with Daniel Auteuil and a very young Vanessa Paradis. Have you seen it? It is shot in black and white, really beautiful cinematography. Auteuil plays a lonely knife thrower who meets a young woman on a bridge who is getting ready to commit suicide. This is the famous song from the film: It is very disappointing that we are yet to see any of Leconte's beautiful films on Blu-ray. Severin said that they would release The Hairdresser's Husband quite some time ago, but nothing came out. Good thing that at least Cohen Media has now listed Love Street, which probably means that a Blu-ray is upcoming. Girl on the Bridge - I have the Australian release, but the UK release is just as good. Both are anamorphic. I am fairly certain, however, that the U.S. release wasn't. So beware. Do you mean the DVD or Blu-ray release? I can check in a few minutes, but I am pretty sure that I only have a DVD release. Finnish releases of Kaurismaki films, in addition to the ones I have already listed, I have Light in the Dusk (from Sandrew), and Juha (on DVD). I don't have these on Finnish Blu-rays. I will probably pick them all on Blu-ray very soon because I really like Kaurismaki's work. Excluding a few shorts, I think I have everything on DVD. S. |

I sometimes regret selling my Koch DVD of La Dolche Vita when I was clearing out my DVD collection in early 2013, but I figured that it's probably just a matter of time before a great Blu-ray edition lands on our shores. The opening sequence with the helicopter and the statue always slays me.

Saw Her today. I liked the movie a lot spike jonze's look into the future is a sad one, technology is a scary and cool thing. Made me think of the Allan Moore interview I read recently. where he said the stuff we create isn't the most important thing it's the friends we meet and interact with...

![]() The Criterion release is nice to have because it has very good extras (quality). The interview with Andre Wilms was most definitely done when Criterion prepared material for Le Havre. ![]() Pro-B Last edited by pro-bassoonist; 01-04-2014 at 10:25 PM. |
