Hey guys. Whats the latest on Mulholland Drive? Is it gonna be a reality or just a wet dream?

Nothing but a wet dream at this point.

A Criterion Blu-ray release of Mulholland Drive is currently like Bigfoot - some people swear it's real but no one has any proof.

EDIT

Willpower is for suckers... I bought it while it was still reasonable.
It's a great film. No worries.

Lino Ventura is incredible in the film, and Simone Signoret has one of the toughest female roles in cinema.

I just saw Army of Shadows for the first time on Saturday night and was blown away. Everything about it just screams masterpiece. Smoss - I'd say, without hesitation, go for it. I just bought mine on ebay for $34 brand new. While I was watching the auctions and deciding if I wanted to take a chance, I saw one go for $33, so it can be had for a good price. Good luck! For me, it is now up there as one of my favorite Criterion titles with The Third Man and Ikiru.

I'd love to have Le Cercle Rouge on blu, but I'm not sure I can justify it to myself, let alone my wife who, by the way, thought Army of Shadows was amazing, too.

I've posted this countless times, but the Region-Free BluRay that came with the German Concorde box set is one of my most cherished discs. Importing it is worth looking into

I had to go through Amazon, eBay banned my account in the name of their scorched earth policies so they aren't an option.

Do you work for a competitor of eBay or something?

What what say what? What are their scorched Earth policies?

I've only done business on eBay once in my life. A little over a decade ago, I ordered a first pressing of the original UK 7'' single of The Cure's "A Forest", since it's my favorite song of all time.

The artwork alone made the $12 purchase worthwhile...

[Show spoiler]

For the most part, though, I find eBay entirely too complicated and irritating to use on a frequent basis.

I scan eBay ever so often when I want to see if anyone has reasonable prices for the Criterion Blu-ray of The Third Man, but Amazon third party sellers probably provide the same end result.

I'm on my phone so I'll be brief, but basically I know another user who was banned. This person is an acquaintance at best. They banned most of his family and people who might know him. I see the person once a year, have no relationship with him or any businesses dealings with him. They won't tell me how they think I know him and he lives hours away from me. They banned his brother, his girlfriend, his girlfriend's aunt etc, about 12 accounts in all. I cannot get unbanned because they say they can't be sure I won't give him access to my account. I've been with eBay for almost a decade, 100% feedback as both a seller and buyer and now I'm basically SOL. I've called countless times, emailed and even spoken with the CEO's office to no avail. To get unbanned, I have to prove I didn't break the rules but they refuse to tell me why they think I broke the rules. The reasoning is if they tell me, I'll use the info to bypass their security.

They can die as far as I'm concerned, but it really irritates me that I can't use their service for a reason they've never given me when I know I didn't break any rules

I buy and sell on E-Bay still quite frequently, but it's not as good as it used to be. You used to be able to find tons of stuff from people selling their unwanteds, now it's dominated by online companies selling their wares, hence deals and "steals" are less frequent. Also, for sellers they used to charge insertion fees for everything. They have phased those out for lots of stuff but instead take a percentage off your sales instead (much like Amazon marketplace) so basically they're taking more from sellers on the backend.

So many other issues I could rant on and on all day!

The movies are more drama than action however, so as long as you don't go in expecting a typical Samurai film you'll be okay. It can be pretty melodramatic at times.. It has beautiful scenery, and really shows Mifune's range too. It also does a good job showing what life was like back then too, so if you're into Japanese culture and such you'll enjoy it.
i liked these 3 movies alot for their "drama" moments and the scenery.
but it could be that i like it more since i did already know the manga called "vagabond" that covers more of the background story that was not shown in the movie. and i did of course read a book about musashi

For the Alfred Hitchcock fans in the fold...

I just pulled the trigger on the Australian Blu-ray of Lifeboat, since this disc has been confirmed as being Region A playable and that it reportedly comparable to the Masters of Cinema disc (same special features).

Lifeboat

$25.60, including international shipping. I ordered Journey to the Centre of the Earth (1959) from EzyDVD last month, and am pleased with the disc, so it was a no-brainer to pull the trigger on Lifeboat after finding out that it, too, is Region A friendly.
(As with Journey to the Centre of the Earth, the EzyDVD site states it as Region B, but the disc is confirmed Region A playable by Blu-ray.com.)

Must be something in the air, I just picked up the MoC Lifeboat steelbook (along with The Lost Weekend and Cleopatra) last week.

I think I'm going to put another uk order in soon too. With any luck I can take a few for the team.

Nice! In the same vein, one of only a handful of ebay purchases that I have made was an original poster for the release of The Smiths song Sheila Take a Bow. I got it framed and it hangs proudly in my living room along with my Vertigo poster.

I grew up listening to The Smiths and I love the artwork for their releases.

The photo on the cover of The Queen is Dead is none other than Alain Delon (Le Samourai, Le Cercle Rouge, The Leopard) from the film, The Unvanquished. The covers of Strangeways, Here We Come and for two of the band's singles collections are from Elia Kazan's East of Eden.

Is that big giant ratings sticker on the outside packaging or on the sleeve itself?

Wow! I didn't know that was Alain Delon!! Thanks, Owl. That's awesome. Is that film any good - The Unvanquished?

Don't forget this one, too, with James Dean:

[Show spoiler]

To kind of bring it back to movies (albeit not Criterion,) if anyone is remotely close to Fairmount, Indiana which was James Dean's hometown, there are two museums - one owned by a private collector and another which is the Fairmount Historical Museum... awesome collections. My sister and I used to make the pilgrimage their once a year when they have their festival late in September around the anniversary of his death. Interestingly enough, such a small town is also home to Jim Davis creator of Garfield, so the historical society has memorabilia of his, as well. Anyway, highly recommended! Dean is also buried there, in Fairmount.
