Yes, I know it's Monday, I was just trying to get clarification on what I saw posted last week, since I didn't see the post they were referring to.

And I was just on the site and saw that note, hoping that's a good sign for the Flash sale.

(Not that liking blockbusters and popular movies equals bad taste, but you get what I'm saying.)

An acquaintance from France had never heard of Le Samourai until I mentioned it to him.
For some reason, the title of a Twilight Zone episode has come to mind - "People are alike all over." That says it for me.

I wouldn't be surprised if you said that the French pal of yours does not know who Godard is. I'm pretty convinced, however, that British people have better taste in music, but if you ever look at 'best of' lists on NME.com, you'd be shocked at some of the stuff that is included - not the choice of artists and bands, but what songs actually are hits there versus what appeals to our ears.

Meh. 95% of the recent posts in that thread are just packaging discussions which I have zero interest in.

Not Collection-related, but I heard the very sad news Harold Ramis has died. Regardless of one's taste in film, Ramis was one of the filmmakers that everyone who watches movies has experienced one way or another, and may be one of the most influential people in creating what we consider modern "comedy films". Rest in Peace.

In preparation for the flash sale, I'm trying to decide on which of the latest titles I want to buy. However, I would like to avoid the newer, thicker digi-pack options for the time being, as I have a gut feeling they won't last long. Can someone tell me which of the following titles have the regular clear amaray cases? Thanks!

Throne of Blood
Jules and Jim
Foreign Correspondent (I'm pretty sure this one is digipack)
King of the Hill

yeah, very bummed out about this. Such a great director/writer/actor. I love his movies, he will be missed.

It was ineligible for the Best Foreign Film category. However, it was eligible for every other category, which makes Adele Exarchopoulos the most glaring snub.

I always had a soft spot for Egon Spengler.

"So you think there's a link between this Viggo person and the uh...slime?"

"Is the atomic weight of Cobalt 58.9?"

Possibly my favorite Ghostbusters quote (from II).

thought I'd pass along this nugget. as I have expressed before, I'm on the side of the fence that (no longer) has interest in the work of Wes Anderson, BUT this is really cool and to show I'm not a hater...

The Music Box theater is hosting a free advanced screening of his new film this Saturday and he is scheduled to appear in person for Q&A after the film.

Check out the link.

if Chicago is within driving distance for you, this should be a lot of fun.

Throne of the Blood is the only one that comes in a plastic case. The other three come in the thick digi-packs. For future reference this website http://www.criterionforum.org/listing.php has packaging photos for almost all Criterion movies.

Can anyone give a Criterion noob a run-down of what the flash sales usually entail? For instance, any idea of what the prices of some of the Kurosawa Blu-rays might be?

I'm about half way through (was watching Zatoichi's Cane Sword last night, didn't quite finish). Have found them to be entertaining, kind of a mix of Kung Fu tv show and Fugitive tv show and not even sure what else. I've stretched them out a bit, no watch them all marathons here.

Wrt packaging, yeah, well I hate slots. The blus are stored in a separate 9-disc case now.

That out of the way, the only thing that gets me from time to time is the occasional video glitch; some seem to be transitory (dust/dirt or teeny scratches on the disc?, or my electronics?, not really sure, most I can see when I go back and play them again, some not (haven't really noticed this with other blus, so I suspect it's just that that's the way the discs are)), some turn out to be just minor film damage, a couple of them have some sound issues at least with the music (distorted).

Looking forward to finishing them up. And not looking forward to being finished with them.

50% of list price. Figure 20 bucks plus perhaps shipping for most of them. Box sets obviously more, but still 50% off.
