There is literally nothing epic ever showing in Rhode Island or in any neighboring states. The only time I'd be afforded the opportunity to see an older film on the big screen is to travel to NYC one weekend.

Anyone ever see a film in 70mm? Was the experience noticeably better? I know this isn't really Criterion related, but I figure some of you have seen something in the format (Playtime, perhaps? )
Ive seen one film in 70mm and it was 2001. It was also my first time seeing it. Might be the most immersive cinematic experience I've ever had.

I live in St. Louis, but I have some family in New York. This is my excuse to see them. The Boyhood screening with a Linklater Q&A also helps.

I'll be keeping an eye on it, so when they put out the schedule, I'll send you a PM.

The Music Box has had 70mm showings for a while now. I caught Playtime and 2001 there last year, in addition to others years past. It is definitely a viewing 'experience.' It really is like seeing the film for the first time, as I recommend seeing the film on your home screen before you go. It will increase the 'WOW' factor. I will tell you at the Box, try to get there a little early and try to sit in the middle to back of the theater. Try to avoid the front, as you will miss some of the sides... Have fun..

The replacement case for The Night of the Hunter arrived today, and it's all good.

One digipak down, many more to go...

Don't miss Patton either! I caught that one (along with Lawrence Of Arabia, The Sound Of Music and Vertigo) in 70mm at the Cinerama in Seattle and it was so worth it! During the opening speech it felt as if George C. Scott was literally walking onto the stage

As for 70mm films, aside from the ones mentioned above I've also managed to catch 2001, Playtime, The Master and Cheyenne Autumn and every one was an incredible experience. I personally sit wherever the screen fills my peripheral vision and I'd suggest the same for these! Get immersed into that bad boy!
You're in for a VERY good time, I can tell you that!

Would you mind posting a pic of what it looks like now? I might want to do the same as my NotH is looking a little worse for wear.

I'm actually keeping my digipack case in a drawer, along with my original digipak cases for The Third Man and Last Year at Marienbad.

I should probably give them away, because I will probably never touch them again, but I just like the idea of having them just in case.

Forgive me if I don't really feel like taking my own iPhone photos at the moment, but I will share the photo from Criterion's website...

[Show spoiler]

It's a nice-looking setup, and the booklet from the digipak fits perfectly in the case.

I don't know if it's been mentioned but one thing I don't like about the plastic cases are the teeth for lack of a better name. The vertical plastic pieces at the top and bottom of the right side of the case. When the booklets are a bit high or low during the assembly process they get nicked up.

I saw The Master in 70mm in its theatrical release 18 months ago or whenever it was. Pretty spectacular, though Playtime I'm sure is a whole 'nother level...

Would be a great addition to the collection. Although the old DVD 2-disc addition had a lot of great supplements, Criterion would have a hard time topping it.

I've seen Lawrence in 4K and in 35mm (aka the Roadshow Print). Both are incredible.
