The Brood
Tootsie

What's the thoughts on Pickpocket? The trailer looks awesome. May have to blind buy it! Also anyone seen Upstream Color? Another Malick-like movie that haven't seen.....

Whatever happened to the rights to Blood for Dracula & Flesh for Frankenstein?

They would be perfect October releases.

Yep, Plus didn't they release Throne of Blood & Hidden Fortress close together? One was Jan & the other March, If I remember correctly.

Long over due some Bergman though.

I guess he's sulking.
He was complaining about people "having a go" at him. Someone said he posts way too much in the thread...

I have a feeling Criterion might announce an upgrade of Ugetsu today.

Really?! That is great news. Playtime really made me want to see more of his movies.

Hoping the next Bergman is the faith trilogy. But I would also assume they picked up the rights to Hour of the Wolf, Shame, Passion of Anna and The Serpent's Egg from MGM at the same time they grabbed Persona.

Tootsie is long overdue as well.

Image did own them, possibly still do... but I wish Criterion would want to issue the one title in it's original 3D! That is another wish list holy grail BLU release that I try not to think about because I doubt it will ever happen.

I have both the Criterion DVDs and Image DVD releases of those titles.

Persona isn't licensed from MGM. MGM's license expired and the US rights reverted to Svensk Filmindustri, who Criterion then licensed from. I don't know if the other films have had the same happen for them.

Ok.
Let's see what everyone would say if we got Criterion editions totally degrained and scrubbed, offering "new more colorful interpretations" of the films some of us love, for the generation of the new millenium.
And i'm replying: I would expect a public outrage!

here you are:

Sure, I guess "it wouldn't matter.. at all.."

(Sorry we're continuing the off topic here).

Nice. Then I would assume the same thing happened to all the other titles in the MGM box set, but who knows. I'd love to see all of them, especially Shame, get a release. But not before Through a Glass Darkly & The Silence. Or even Cries & Whispers.

Apparently there are Japenese blu releases of Blood for Dracula and Flesh for Frankenstein, but still waiting for a Criterion or UK (Arrow would be nice) release.

I had the "Joe Delassandro Collection" from Image on DVD (just Flesh, Trash, and Heat packaged together), but sold them about 8 years ago. These need a blu upgrade too.

It's been a long while since I've posted a haul picture, so here goes my 7/15/14 payday purchases...

Beauty and the Beast was a spur-of-the-moment choice after I arrived at Barnes & Noble, because I've put off upgrading my old Criterion DVD for long enough, and because something tells me that this might make a fun double feature with Judex.

The clerk at Barnes & Noble told me that they had already sold seven copies of Scanners today. Wow.

All of the Criterions came from Barnes & Noble for $114 and change.
The non-Criterions (including a Howard Hawks film to watch alongside Red River) came from Movie Stop.

The non-Criterions don't need to be in the picture here, but it's one last wink at everyone who did not want Under the Skin discussed in the thread.

If I hadn't seen this middle one, I'd have thought you were serious (before looking up the other films)!

I would love any Bergman announcement today. Tootsie would be welcome as well.

Where the heck is A Brighter Summer Day, btw? I'm tired of waiting for this!

If it's coming, then I'm guessing it'll be in the WCP box set #2?
