I guess "fanboy" wouldn't be an unfair term to describe myself , but I kinda feel like I mostly always agreed with him.

Mildly not on the same page, but usually never more than a one star difference; I cannot think of one film off the top of my head for which my opinion was the polar opposite. I'm sure there's more than a few... just can't think of one.

EDIT: okay... Blue Velvet, but I think just about everyone was aboard that train!

Not me. Ebert's Blue Velvet review is dead on.

Regarding Roger Ebert film reviews... one of the films that I really loved that I know he didn't care as much for was Oliver Stone's U-Turn in fact I find it the one Stone film I can watch again and again. To me it always felt like a really twisted Twilight Zone episode. Robert Richardson's cinematography was icing on the cake. I hope if u-turn makes it to BLU the transfer is top notch.

Roger Ebert never really gave a lot of love to genre films either, so fans of the Friday the 13th movies and such were out of luck. With thàt type of film, though, people generally know what they are getting into with or without the reviews.

It took me a long time to forgive him when he panned Deliverance.

"A Russ Meyer film, THAT'S what this reminds me of!" (Unquote, on the TV show.)

The 80's were a bad time for ANY slasher film to get critic recognition. Least of all from Gene Siskel.

(Also, their Dog of the Week gimmick, which, while fun back in the days of the Medveds Golden Turkeys, unfortunately made quick judgments just to have something that week and "exiled" a number of now classic B-cults just for playing the drive-in B circuit, like Phantasm, The Brood, Patrick, and Nightmare on Elm Street 1.)

Speaking about Ebert, is it possible that Criterion will release Life Itself? I still haven't seen it but I don't want to see the scenes of Ebert near the end. That'll make me lose my cool for sure.

Roger Ebert brought attention to many films that would not have been recognized otherwise. He and Gene Siskel did an amazing job in championing many great films and made audiences think outside the box. Ebert may have hated many films others may love, but he understood and loved film. I'd love to have Criterion release Life Itself but I do not think they will.

I'm not the biggest fan of the film, but Ebert's reasoning for disliking Blue Velvet has always struck me as lousy. His reviews for Clockwork Orange and Texas Chainsaw don't do much for me, either (although he admitted on a talk show years later that he was probably wrong on the former.)

His writing got wildly inconsistent towards the end of his life. Some of his pieces were some of his best and others.. not so much. I had a chance to meet him. Got him to sign his Scorsese book. It was kind of overwhelming seeing him in front of me after reading/watching him for so many years (and kind of sad; his condition wasn't good.)

Price doesn't bother me in slightest + you get it early which for me is a bonus and I would rather pay extra for faster delivery, plus its roughly same prices as Amazon and even on Ebay some sell Criterions £30+
