Looking ahead to Sept on TCM they'll be showing Il Sorpasso on the 15th @ 2am EDT, I believe, followed by Fellini's Roma. Also, Friday nights will be devoted to Pre-Code titles per their Friday Spotlight series but it looks like every Friday's entire day is filled with Pre-Code films. Good times!

I've joked about this before, but I like the idea of retiring from Blu-ray collecting as soon as Criterion releases a Blu-ray upgrade of Le Samouraï. It's the only one of my all-time top 10 movies that is not available in the format (except on the disappointing French Pathe Blu-ray).

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington Blu-ray
This is great news. I'm glad to see that Sony is still releasing some of its classic catalog titles, and isn't just passing them all off to Twilight Time, with the odd bone to Criterion. Now bring out You Can't Take It With You and Mr. Deeds Goes To Town.

Thanks! I've waited this long so I have no problem being patient. Glad I asked in here because the cheapest I saw it going for was 199.00 and was seriously thinking about it. Appreciate the info

The StudioCanal transfer, which I still own for the extras, is not half bad, but the Criterion Blu-ray is clearly superior in terms of both picture and sound. The Criterion Blu-ray also includes subtitles.

I can definitely vouch for those who are cool with the $10 StudioCanal Blu-ray, because it's still a great deal, but this is one of my favorite films.
Yeah I have the StudioCanal one as well, but the Third Man is a favorite of mine so I really wanted Criterion for the transfer. I will be buying it soon, just gonna be patient to fins a good deal.

Hi,

I am finishing a couple of different Criterion reviews and wanted to leave a small note. If you already own BFI's release of The Innocents and are wondering whether you should upgrade, this is probably a good time to consider trading/selling it. The new 4K restoration is what I consider to be reference material. Criterion's presentation of the film is every bit as impressive as that of Marketa Lazarova.

No doubt one of the year's best looking releases.

^Dang, I hate double-dipping. While I'll likely get this one once I've had a chance to look at screens and see if the difference is significant to mine poor eye, I'll probably have to keep the BFI version, mainly for that lovely short film The Bespoke Overcoat.

Thank you MikeZ. I sure wish they'd do a Drugstore Cowboy issue one day.

Just watched Ida for the first time, and thought it appropriate to post here. Wow, what an amazing film.

Literally one of the most beautiful movies of the last decade. Every frame felt like a painting. The cast was also wonderful, and the drama was engagingly subtle and low-key.

Is this definitely not included on the Criterion release then? As seemed to remember the initial press release saying 'more' when listed with the supplements.

I was incredibly underwhelmed by that film.

It's a great looking film and the acting is out of this world, but the story really did nothing for me.
