Taking advantage of the BN 50% already, using the three 20% coupons I had saved, getting each move for about $15 each. Ended up buying My Darling Clementine, 3:10 to Yuma, and Bottle Rocket.

Looking forward to It Happened One Night next week!

I don't follow the thread, i'm sure it's been asked. Which e-mail address to ask Criterion for a replacement? Is it press@criterion.com?

Any opinions on the Qatsi trilogy set? I've only seen the first one in a documentary film class several years ago, and it's never left my consciousness. Are the other two as incredible as Koyaaniqatsi? Looking to get it during the sale but I only buy a few Criterions a year and am quite discriminate about which ones they are.

I'm using solid steel shelves (BD-392) from Boltz.com if anyone is interested. They are not cheap but I like how they're designed plus I couldn't find anything I liked at IKEA anyway.

If anyone likes my setup (categorized alphabetically of course), please comment! Thanks.
Wow! I love your setup, and I think your Criterion Collection looks fantastic. Color me green ...

No, they are no where near the level of Koyaanisqatsi. However, they are in my opinion incredible and work so well together (Visitors his newest film works eally well in there too!).

They all explore different themes and Philip Glass' score for each is really superb. I think you will be a bit disappointed after seeing Koyaanisqatsi but personally its worth getting the set.

A lot of people hate the final film Naqoyqatsi, and I get the reasoning (i love it tbh and the imagery and faults ppl bring up are there for a reason). But it does feel very dated cause of the effects used (again they are used for a reason).

I find the second film to be a bit tedious at times and it has moments worth seeing but I just couldn't connect with it as much. Koyaanisqatsi is full of life and I can watch that on repeat for days and the soundtrack is bold, sad, exciting, fun and really messes with your emotions haha!

Check out Visitors though, its very different, but I found it so haunting and mesmerising, also Samsara (the bluray is SPECTACULAR the quality is so high), Chronos and Baraka. !

Oh also, if you love that style check out this new project http://www.20-22.com!

Sorry if I ramble and make no sense, I find it hard typing whats in my head lol!

Okay, so I made my first visit to Barnes & Noble this afternoon and grabbed a few titles. It was funny ... I was on my way to an appointment, and I didn't have a lot of time to debate myself endlessly on what I should pick up on this first go-round. I ended up with five titles and handed them to the CSR along with a handful of coupons, telling him to do whatever he could for me. Here's how it shook up after the dust settled:

The 39 Steps @ 12.99 (39.99 less 50% less 10% less $5.00)
I Married a Witch @ 13.49 (29.99 less 50% less 10%)
The Great Dictator @ 14.39 (39.99 less 50% less 10% less 20%)
The Innocents @ 14.39 (ditto)
My Darling Clementine @ 14.39 (ditto)

So my grand total for all five CC blu-rays was $69.65 plus tax, or a little less than the MSRPs of I Married a Witch and The 39 Steps combined. And the CSR handed me back a couple of coupons and told me to come back in next week.

I'm a happy man!

I believe you e-mail Jon Mulvaney, but I am not sure.

I've e-mailed him twice for a replacement case for To Joy in the Eclipse Series 1 set, but I have not had any luck...

Polaroid: Thanks for the detailed response, it's nice to hear from someone who owns the set and is passionate about it.

Sounds like the second two films aren't as good, but at 50 percent off, it's still worth getting for the first film. I really can't wait to see it again and Netflix doesn't have the blu-ray for rent, so my only option seems to buy the set. I've waited to see if Criterion would release the first film individually but it doesn't seem that's going to happen. Like you said about putting it on repeat -I can see myself doing that also . As soon as I finished seeing it I immediately wanted to see it again.

I'll check out the other recommendations you gave, I've never seen Baraka or Samsara, though I think they'd interest me as I was really moved by Koyaanisqatsi when I saw it. Thanks so much!

Or you can just look here: http://www.criterion.com/current/pos...efective-discs

Jon Mulvaney
The Criterion Collection

New York, NY 10003

Please include only your disc—no packaging—along with the address to which you’d like us to mail your replacement. We will not be replacing or exchanging packaging. There is no need to email us in addition.

Everyone posting here has pointed me to a lot of films I would've missed and saved me a ton of money by spotting good sales and explaining how to take advantage of them.

So my turn now. I have seven 20% and a couple of 15% that are good through Sunday. I don't think I'll use them since I'm only picking up a few BDs this sale and I've got a good chance of having the 8/40 coupons work.

So PM me and I'll forward them to you. Limit two/person so I can spread 'em around.

....and I still owe one and all. Many thanks!

Seeing as I have zero dollars I only went ahead and got two (which I REALLY shouldn't have bought), Eraserhead and La Dolce Vita.
Couldn't let TWO sales pass by and these are the most essential.
Everything else is going on the christmas list! (even though I already know for a fact that no one will buy me any of them)

LOL....who knows? I go for months with none, and then this happens. I think hariseldon suggested trial memberships using the same email address with a moving period in it, and that seems to have kicked in.

I used one of the coupons on the Tati set. I know some don't care for him, but I thoroughly enjoy his soft satire and warmth. He recalls Chaplin to me, but there's a French intellectual edge to his work that I don't get in Chaplin. Of course, if I had to choose one, it would be Chaplin for his warmth and energy, but luckily we can have both.

So I took advantage of the B&N sale and made a few purchases over the last 2 days. I'm sure I'll be buying more before the sale is over. FWIW, here's what I picked up so far.

Macbeth - I was forced to read Macbeth for an English class in high school. I didn't fully understand (or appreciate) it then, so thought it might be interesting to revisit it in movie form. Plus I've become somewhat of a Roman Polanski fan, so thought why not.

My Darling Clementine - John Ford, Henry Fonda, Walter Brennan, western ... 'nuf said.

Sundays and Cybele - Loved Patricia Gozzi in Rapture, which helped to sell me on this movie.

The Darjeeling Limited - A totally unexpected buy. I wanted something on the lighter side, so when I picked this up and read the synopsis ... well, it kind of resonated with me and my own family. (smirk)

Summer Hours - Another buy that was unexpected ... until I browsed through the review today. This is the most personal of the films I bought, as it sort of touches on what's going on in my own life right now. I was sold on it after reading "Dr. Svet's" glowing review.

That's all for now. (love these sales)

You can have a piece of my green carpet! Pretty soon I'm going to get rid of this 30+ year old carpet! Yes, you heard right. You can display my portion of green carpet on your wall in a frame if you'd like. Hell, maybe i'll just do it for you!

BWDowiak, that goes for you too! I know you're a fan of the fuzzy green.

I only received one 20% coupon so I'm going to use it with care.

Probably on the Tati box set of course!

Or anything more expensive than your typical $39.99 titles.

Then again, maybe I should wait until the 30% Black Friday coupons come out to use on something like the Tati set. Hmmmmmmmmmm.

Lots to ponder.
