No.

Announcements are on the 15th of the month, but if the 15th falls on a weekend day or a holiday, they get pushed out to Monday. Or to Tuesday if Monday's a holiday.

It is quiet, slow, and almost painful to watch as the main character imposes his authoritative will on a young girl and her father. the end of the film

in other words, NOT award bait!
Agreed. Saying Au Revoir or Lacombe is awards bait couldn't be further from the truth, especially the latter.

Great choices! Black Narcissus is one of my favorites among all the films in the collection, simply because of the breathtaking three-strip Technicolor photography by Jack Cardiff ... he more than deserved the Oscar he won for it. Deborah Kerr is fantastic in it (she won the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actress), and so is Kathleen Byron, whose performance is a knockout that impresses me more with every viewing. Enjoy!

I just finished revisiting The Vanishing Blu-ray for the third time in two weeks. If any of you have still not included this one in your sale haul, then now is the time. It's my favorite Criterion title of 2014. Insomnia is probably a close second, and the two movies would make for a great double feature, since they both involve dual foreign languages and associated accents in the plot lines.

I figured that the chance of The Golden Age of Television ever seeing the light of day on Blu-ray is pretty slim, so today was a good time to take advantage.

Sadly, the new plastic case for The Golden Age of Television is pretty godawful. It's a three-disc plastic case and is pretty much the DVD equivalent of the Dual-Format plastic three-disc cases a few months ago. Normally, this would be wonderful, but the booklet for this title is so enormous that it makes the plastic case bulge out in the middle so that there is a big opening. This plastic DVD case looks like that big dude in Monty Python's Life of Brian before he exploded. I'm not joking.

That's too bad. It's been on my wishlist for a while now, but I've put off buying it because none of my local B&N's ever have it in stock when they have a sale on. Maybe I'll look for a used copy of the digipack version. As for a possible Blu Ray upgrade, I don't see the point. These are kinescopes we're talking about.

That would be The Meaning of Life.

"It's only one little wafer thin mint".

Here are the pictures of this new case for The Golden Age of Television...

[Show spoiler]

If you put your ear up to the side of the case, then you can barely hear it saying, "Feed me, Seymour. Feed me."

Oh, and, yes, I meant to say The Meaning of Life.

BECAUSE THE DIGIPAKS TAKE UP so much space in my house and on my shelf and whatnot and I hate them and they're ugly and I don't want DVDs and clear cases forever and ever

In all honesty, no idea. The same thing happened with The Night of the Hunter, and it sounds like it's happening with Foreign Correspondent. My love of digipaks has been previously documented, so I'll refrain from repeating myself, but this upsets me

I'm still trying to get over 'The Double Life of Veronique' upgrade from digipak to clear case.

Yeah, I love the digipaks. I think they look so much better than the regular release cases. Plus, I actually preferred the dual-format releases because I don't always have access to a Blu-ray player.

It annoys me that people complained so much about the dual-format and digipak releases that Criterion reverted back to separate releases, and now people are complaining that we're getting pamphlets instead of booklets. Plus, those who complain that the digipaks take up space, here's a thought: you don't have to buy the release. Criterion explained that they have to cut back due to finances, so the complaints make no sense to me. We can't get everything we want; this is a business after all.

I'm sorry if this comes off as rude.

It annoyed me too :P! I loved DF as I can watch DVDs in bedroom and blurays in lounge, now i have to incest in another american player which is £100 odd.

I found digipaks felt for complete and more thought went into them, they stand out and look beautiful and you can include for in them, bigger books/booklets, more artwork.

TGAOT is perfect example of why plastic cases are flawed an limited, they look cheap, generic and don't feel special and you can't fit nice big booklets in them.

Tbh this argument has gone on and on and ends up going in circles - can't please everyone I suppose!

Nope, it comes off as a complaint about complainers

I think the issue was never about digipacks by themselves. If Criterion had kept them similar in size and frequency of use to previous years, it would not have lead to complaints. But what Criterion did was give each digipack a dose of steroids and make them standard for almost every new release. These new versions were huge.

Criterion did come up with a solution of finally getting a three-disc plastic case, but then abandoned the whole dual format thing immediately after these rolled out. Their abandonment of dual format had less to do with complaints about packaging and more to do with DVD-buyers (institutional and individual) not appreciating the extra Blu-ray.

Or the extra expense, I would think.
