I mean Von Trier did portray the essence of women as Crazy. And since this represents pretty much the ideal of Adam AND Eve. That would mean "SHE" represents ALL woman. But...to me...just for face value my opinion is what I drew from that. NOT.....and read that word again...NOT that all woman are bad. |

That's for sure.
[Show spoiler] I've come to feel that when it comes to Breillat, I just don't make any assumptions. She can do anything, to any character, in any horrible, graphic, mind-scarring way, at absolutely any time. That seems to just be the way she roles. ![]() |

I was just being sarcastic with earlier post. I think the movie is a pretty damn brilliant art-house horror movie, portraying the stages of grief from a loss and the descent into mental illness. Chaos reigns indeed... |

Ahhh, a full weekend with nothing to do but watch my new Criterion blu-rays!
First, I popped in 'Children of Paradise', just to see what the grain structure (or lack thereof) looked like, since I had only looked at the supplemental feature about the restoration work so far. Wow. It looks like a DVD. Just to make sure I wasn't seeing things, I popped in 'Treasure of the Sierra Madre' (beautiful grain structure), and you guys were absolutely right: They've filtered ALL of the grain!!!! Honestly, it wouldn't really bother me if I wasn't looking for the flaw, but now that I see it, it is definitely one of the lesser-quality transfers I've seen from Criterion. |

Yoshiyuki Kuroda has a newly added "phantom page". Hopefully this means LONE WOLF AND CUB is happening.

I already own the Animeigo Blu-ray set but I would upgrade in a heartbeat if a Criterion set came out. Have there been rumors about Criterion releasing Lone Wolf And Cub? |

I just watched another Fatih Akin Turkish/German film tonight, The Edge of Heaven. This director needs to be in the Criterion Collection. It would be a perfect fit alongside Milcho Manchevski's Before the Rain and Joshua Marston's The Forgiveness of Blood.
The Edge of Heaven is one remarkable piece of cinema that has an amazing 3rd act and ending. Akin's films have fantastic endings I have to say and I found myself emotionally devastated at one point towards the end. Tears streamed out of my eyes and if a movie can do that to a man, I'd say its a damn good movie. It's too bad this film isn't on blu-ray either. If you're a fan of Krzysztof Kieslowski, be sure to check this one out. It's Akin's best film in my opinion (better than Head-On, yes.) |

Very good film, jw007
![]() I only have this film on DVD and it looks good at best/not great (see below). By the way, technically Fatih Akin is already in the Criterion Collection as there is a very good interview with him on the Dry Summer disc. He is actually responsible for bringing the film to Marty Scorsese's attention ![]() ![]() Also, if your library has any of Tony Gatlif's films, take a look at them. They are very, very different from what is typically shown at the major festivals. Actually, Transylvania is with Birol Ünel, from Akin's Head On, and Asia Argento. You can see the trailer here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...t=transylvania ![]() Have a great weekend ![]() Pro-B |

Thanks for the suggestions, pro-bassoonist!
I didn't realize Akin was in the World Cinema box set and that he influenced Scorcese about Dry Summer! I bought this earlier in the year and still need to open and watch the films in there. That may be the next project I tackle. I just watched that 90 second trailer for Transylvania too. Birol Ünel might be my favorite actor now (he strangely resembles a young Bob Geldof crossed with the late Michael Hutchence assuming he were still alive today and aged a bit). Oh, I just noticed Ünel's birthday is one day before mine too. Last edited by jw007; 12-06-2014 at 10:21 AM. |

Not to be random, but how long should it take for Barnes and Noble to ship to France, because my copy of L'Eclisse shipped on November 13, and I have yet to receive it. Amazon has taken perhaps two and a half weeks in the past, but this is the first time it's gotten past the three week mark.

I just don't understand why trans-Atlantic shipments are so much quicker going from Europe to North American than vice versa. Amazon UK would take a week more or less to ship to NYC back when I lived there.
Oh, and here's my favorite. I shipped my Sonopress copies of Walkabout and Pierrot Le Fou on November 13, et ils ont pris presque trois semaines pour dépasser la frontière française!! I had the package tracked, and they only left France on December 2!! What?! Well it's a good thing I had the replacements shipped to my mother who lives in NYC rather than to France if the whole process is taking this long, as I'll be away for three weeks over the holiday at which time I'll hopefully get the discs from her. most of the time its because countrys in the EU have a much lower customs free (duty) limit than the U.S.. stuff that U.S customs will clear in a few days might be sitting on the shelfs of EU customs for weeks.
