It's a list by a mainstream magazine so it's bound to have an air of the popular about it (& not to be taken that seriously of course). That said, if it convinces a few more people to try out some of these films then fair play to 'em.

BTW Thank Heavens on the BN sale dates. Finally people will STOP ASKING FOR THE DATES (Like they have for 7 months). Naturally, come 8/2 it will go back to "SO WHEN IS THE NEXT BN SALE?" ![]() |

I would love for Criterion to release Sweet Smell of Success, and I don't want to throw water on the fire...but does it say anywhere on the Criterion Facebook page that the film on the screen (Sweet Smell of Success) is being prepared for Blu-ray? Isn't it possible that it could be DVD only?

I happen to like the "digibook" case for The Matrix...MUCH more than the BD slipcase. |

![]() And I know there are mixed feelings...but I would LOVE to see "Barry Lyndon" get a Criterion release on BD as well. WB doesn't seem to be in any rush to do this and it would look dynamite with a proper transfer (unlike Spartacus ![]() |

Last post for now...gotta get to work!
![]() I rented "Close-up" from NetFlix and though it was an interesting film...it just didn't grab me. I wound up watching it last night and then putting in the mail last night as well, in the hopes that I would get "Everlasting Moments" by Saturday (I didn't even check out the supplements on Close-Up). I'm trying to check out as many Criterion titles as possible, before July 12. |

I only saw the first one completely..... didn't make it through the second one, and never tried the third one....... I'm sure it's well done, but it's one of the few genres that I just can't get into...... But like I said, I'm sure it was done well.....
Unfortunately the only copy of "Barry Lyndon" I have was part of a Kubrick Box-set..... and the transfer isn't that great, and it lacks supplemental material..... I'd be all over this Blu-ray! |

Still no pre-orders for Sept releases? (except for Thin Red Line, of course)

Kubrick has quite a chunk of his legacy on Blu-ray already:
Spartacus Dr. Strangelove 2001: A Space Odyssey A Clockwork Orange The Shining Full Metal Jacket Eyes Wide Shut But perhaps home entertainment managers for the big corporations (Time Warner, Sony, etc.) don't want to overdo themselves with pumping out their film libraries and using up valuable plastic and silicon to make DVDs and Blu-rays that might not get bought. Profit is (OBVIOUSLY!!!) important to them, which is why "Paths of Glory", "Barry Lyndon" and the especially controversial "Lolita" are wayyyyy back on the back burner ...... they aren't quite as popular as "2001" and "The Shining". |

One has to remember that Warner released their five other Kubrick films (2001, The Shining, Eyes Wide Shut, Full Metal Jacket, Clockwork Orange) back in Fall 2007 on both Blu-ray and HD-DVD, including various international versions. That was a rather large project for WB, and IIRC the initial sales were slightly below expectations (which was one of the reasons for them ending the format war in January 2008). |

Just straight... with a slight bit of joking-around queerness.
![]() Plus, I'm too far past the age limit of labeling myself as one thing or another... especially something like "straight edge." Maybe, when I was back in my early teens and thought I was cool, but I'll leave all that back in the '80s with Minor Threat. ![]() CC Last edited by ccfixx; 07-01-2010 at 06:43 PM. |

I'm 22 and have considered myself straight edge since I was 15!
It's a little childish, but Minor Threat is still one of my favorite bands. Anyway, anyone see the picture Criterion posted on their facebook page about a half hour ago? ![]() |
