Don't they generally drop to around $25 before release though? I'm happy to buy Criterion releases on release in an effort to support a company that I feel do good work. Living in the UK I'm not really able to benefit from sales either.

It was a pretty paltry rumor. If I recall, a person (who did not identify themself) commented on an instagram photo that their husband (who they did not identify) was working on a re-release.

Am I missing any details to this rumor everybody?

If I recall correctly, that rumor was for a February 2015 re-release date, so at this point I think it's safe to say that rumor has been long expired.

I might be mixing rumors (and I can't find the pic now) but didn't the rumors about The Man Who Fell to Earth start (or get at least get jump started) with a shot of various covers and booklets (I specifically remember oohing over Mr. Arkadin) that we now believe were materials for the Criterion coffee table book?

Someone commented on the image claiming that it would return to print in February 2015--a thin, thin rumor (that, yes, has long lapsed)...but still.

Really: it's thinner than shaved paper. But...

The reply time of those of us who have contacted Criterion at a time not immediately following a flash sale is probably not terribly relevant to your situation.

I'm guessing they get about 50x more of those types of emails than usual right after one of their flash sales, and their average reply time is probably effected accordingly.

Or you could just send a follow up email?

Either way, I'm sure they'll get back to you eventually.

The flash sale pandemonium might indeed be slowing down their response time. I'm only asking for input because I've never contacted Criterion before so I don't know how long it usually takes for a response. I'll wait until tomorrow before sending a follow up e-mail.

Their customer service is very good overall but I had to gently prod them the one time I had an issue.

That is my dream. Could you imagine an Eclipse set of films like Repast, Yearning, Scattered Clouds, Flowing, or Floating Clouds? I think it would be a contender for the best DVD set ever released.

Sadly, I don't think Criterion has plans to ever release a Naruse film again. For one, I'm pretty sure When a Woman Ascends the Stairs sold poorly and the other thing is that they probably see the market for his films as low. How else do you explain not releasing any of his films in 8 years. At least they could have released Floating Clouds, as it is considered by the Japanese to be one of their three greatest films.
