No. Where are the numbers?

Looks like the winner based only on PQ.
Yeah, "cleaner" isn't always the preference though.

Often reviews on this site include a direct reference to other versions in the closing statements. It seems like Pro-B is equally satisfied (and equally unsatisfied) by both releases, and I wanted to make sure, that's all.

All this dubbing talk is reminding me of a TV show I saw on Netflix last night...Danger 5. All the dialogue looked dubbed, and badly. I think they were trying to make it look as ridiculous as possible...weird show.

I've never seen Valerie and Her Week of Wonders. Would that clue of the crazy lady have anything to do with it?

Not sure why i keep arguing for here, but as a last post about this i found some quick info on this:

http://www.animenation.net/blog/2012...-cost-so-much/

According to that, in 2008 was around $10,000 for a 25 minutes episode, multiply by 4, and add extra Criterion quality, and inflation

and should be around $50,000 minimum, of course these are all ballpark figures.

Edit: ahh shadedpain4 beat me to it, but it shows my estimates were fairly low, probably because mine was based on Anime

Oh! I didn't know you guys had that there - It's an Australian comedy, and yeah, it is meant to look poorly dubbed.

Yeah, only on Netflix. I watched one episode so far...I didn't really "get" the humor. Maybe I'll keep watching. I'm guessing its supposed to be weird for weird's sake.

Thanks pedromvu and shadedpain4, but if Joie was actually interested in the answer, she(?) would have done that simple search themselves.

I once lucked into a bunch of Criterion DVDs that had just been priced and were on a cart, waiting to be shelved, and greedily snatched up the eight or nine titles I didn't already own for $5.98 each And I can't count how many mint CDs I picked up on clearance for $2.00 apiece.

I don't miss a lot of things in Texas (people are a different matter), but I do miss Half-Price Books!
I made my way out to a different store today and found some more gems: hardcover copies of 'The Tin Drum' and the Spencer Tracy biography by James Curtis for $3 apiece in the clearance section, a brand-new copy of the Mill Creek release of 'The Lady from Shanghai' for $6.99, and a copy of Kenneth Branagh's 'Much ado About Nothing' for $8.74 with a 30% off coupon. I could blow my entire paycheck between there and Amazon lol.

Pretty much. To be honest, I only watched the first ep myself. I enjoyed it well enough, but figured I pretty much got it at that point.

I've realized that of the four Czech films I've seen (Marketa Lazarová, Loves of a Blonde, Valerie and Her Week of Wonders, and Daisies), I've only liked Marketa. Maybe the Czech New Wave just isn't for me.
A case of one's food being another's poison, I guess. I enjoyed Valerie a lot. But then I thought Mulholland Drive was a disjointed and boring film

I am actually interested. But I'd prefer numbers from Criterion. They're in a position to at least estimate the cost and determine whether it would be worthwhile.

If you've seen "Gravity," don't you think it's time Alfred Hitchcock lost his "Master of Suspense" title?

Why would you think they would get a wildly different number?

Maybe because of scale and the way the eye moves, subtitles never bother me on the big screen, but on TV subtitles cover too much of the image, spoiling the visuals, and often causing me to miss important details. Proportion of the subs is probably different too, I remember being annoyed that the subs kept covering Sandra Milo's cleavage in 8 1/2, which was not a problem in the theatre. I will rewatch many foreign films without the subs to appreciate the visuals, but with some films it's a chore.
Depends on the film and on the quality of the dub.

Lol, i agree with a previous poster that i am not sure your posts are serious, but on the dubbing subject, i am sure you can ask Criterion directly via email and share with us the answer here.

You think Hitchcock is still "Master of Suspense" after Gravity? Wasn't there a lot of suspense in Gravity? I am serious about this.

Pro-B was right, certain parts of Odd Man Out are better than The Third Man.

Wow...what a remarkable film. Can't wait to pick up the BD.
