Fox Searchlight BD is perfect A/V-wise, so unless this has the mythological 6 hour cut or something that is truly substantial, this'll be one of those "I'll get it for completist sake but it's by no means a priority" kind of things. Oh and watch it get a silly pamphlet.

edit: I'd be fine with the above quoted film. More than fine, actually.

Here's Your Life seems to be the more likely movie based on the clue. To my discredit, though, I have not heard about it until now.

Well it really suits both, but i agree that for The Tree of Life they could easily remove the hands and it would still work, so the other would be more likely.

Criterion should thought a bit more of these drawings to not give false hopes

This reminds me of that time when half of us thought that a drawing was for To Be or Not to Be, and the other half thought that the drawing was for Frances Ha. Both Blu-rays were released, and everyone went home happy.

All of a sudden, I have a hankering to revisit To Be or Not to Be. It's really a tremendous movie.

It was DEFINITELY Frances Ha.

But seriously, it was.

Yeah, it was. It just seemed too obvious at first glance, though.

I wonder what the Criterion April Fools' Joke will be tomorrow.

If it's another Malick then probably won't be released until late '16, assuming that The New world will be released later this year.

Why make an assumption that the 6 hour cut is a "myth"?

Lubezki has said multiple times that Malick has been working on a longer cut. Not only has the cinematographer mentioned this cut, but his friend and editor Billy Weber.

In conclusion, the longer cut is not a myth. It would be great to see it released. I am pretty sure Criterion would not like to miss a chance in releasing a longer version of the film.

They haven't done one the past two years, so I can't imagine they'll return to it.

Maybe

A 6 hour film would require more than one blu-ray. The only company that I can imagine making a profit from a longer version is Criterion.

I can see them releasing two Malick films at the same time. They're giving us two Costa-Gavras films this May, and looking back through the catalog, they have in the past released pairs of films by Samuel Fuller, Henri-Georges Clouzot, Akira Kurosawa, Louis Malle, Claude Chabrol, etc., together.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't most newsletter clues based on new acquisitions? I'm thinking back, and all the ones i remember were new stuff, not things in their library.

Could the clue be a nod towards Monty Python's: Life of Brian?

You assume that I'm making an assumption but I'm not. I'm making a presumption. It's also worth mentioning that it has been debunked. So do I ignore those who say it isn't or do I ignore those who say it is? I'm not going to ignore either and they will both hold equal weight to me until the existence or non-existence of this cut is unveiled.
