Would love a Straw Dogs upgrade, but if I recall correctly the Criterion DVD didn't stay in print very long due to losing the rights.

Yeah you're right. Might have something to do with the ABC films library. Same thing happened with Hitchcock's Rebecca, Spellbound, and Notorious.

This is spot on While it's not a bad film really, it felt like he watched Lost Highway for the first time in the middle of making it.

Criterion frequently posts things to their Facebook and Twitter that have no relation to what they are/will be releasing.

Maybe not you.

Add to that the other "ugh" with Pacific Time; live TV events/Reality Shows! When the results/winner happen at 9pm eastern time, social media blows up with the results, spoiling it for those at "6pm" Pacific Time.
"I'll just avoid going on any PC, laptop, phone, or tablet every day for three hours eiknarf"

OK.

Nahhh, if you're lucky maybe one, and the rest of the releases will be obscure Eastern European films that five people will buy.

I don't think anybody has any proof of that 2pm claim, i think it was EST the first time i see it posted here, but at this point i don't think it was real, unless someone can come up with the source, it definitely isn't on Twitter.

People: It's almost 3 now so clearly the 2 PM EST thing was a lie or mistake from someone.

We'd be lucky to have it by 6 PM EST at the rate we're going...

Being new to following a Criterion release, is it normal for them to wait til "after hours" (after 5pm Eastern) to make their announcement? Especially since members have pointed out that Criterion is based in New York, aka, eastern time zone?
Isn't it best to make such an announcement mid day, so its technically "on hours" everywhere in the country? Just asking

Nor anyone I know on the West Coast of The United States of America. Every town I know of has a First Night. Every major network shows Times Square on tape delay (or their local version in real time). Never heard a single firework go off at 9pm. I'm sure someone does of course, but they would be the vast minority. Representing it as anything aside from that is just fraudulent.

It's pretty natural to assume that all the stuff they post would be a hint of some kind, but history has shown that a lot of their posts are simply "we love movies and think this is cool" type of posts.

You would think so, but announcements do typically occur late in the day, between 5 and 6pm EST. To be fair, I worked in New York for a couple years, and the typical workday ends after 6pm.
