Any other Criterions in your Top 5 you'd recommend without hesitation?
If you can get your hands on the out-of-print Jean-Pierre Melville titles, then jump on those, because they're amazing.

I will happily purchase Jellyfish Eyes, both because I purchase all Criterions, and because I enjoy Japanese films.

Edit: I should point out that this is assuming it gets released by Criterion, although if it does not I'd still look into importing a reasonably priced English subtitled version of it.

I watched Bergman's Cries and Whispers last night. It's a typical Bergman film, but there are some scenes I can't unsee. It might be awhile before I watch this again.

If Criterion does indeed release Jellyfish eyes (which I think they will), that would mean 3 of the top boutique labels out there will be putting out a modern Japanese WTF?! movie within months of each other.

Arrow is releasing The Happiness of the Katakuri's

Eureka is putting out Tokyo Tribe

Is Drafthouse doing Tokyo Tribe in the states, or am I just remembering that they released Why Don't You Play In Hell?

- you inquired about purchasing The Best Years of Our Lives on Amazon once.
- CC releases haven't quite tickled your fancy over the past few months.
- you sold (or tried to sell) a few CC DVDs on eBay (The Ruling Class was one of them.. can't remember the others)
- you have a friend in England who seems to get the best of you with bets, (sorry )
- I'm pretty sure you said you lived in England

why do I remember? don't know. its easy for me. and because, I value what you and others have to say.
But you go and find the actual posts

If you search for Jellyfish Eyes at Criterion, Takashi Murakami's name comes up, despite there being no references to the film on his page. His profile was added about a month or two ago, but past searches for his movie didn't link to that profile until more recently.

Some phantom pages have been there for years though...

Yes, it is traditionally at the end of business day. When I directed high school musicals, I always put the cast list up at the end of the school day. There were always far more disappointed auditioners than elated ones.

No, Murakami's has only been added in the last month or two. The point I'm making is that it didn't come up with a search for Jellyfish Eyes until recently

I do not quite physically resemble Robert Mitchum in my avatar, but I do have the same look of bored resignation on my face about 99% of the time. No lie.

Ah right I see ^^ well as much as the trailer and the directors irritates me, I'm actually dying to get hand son it to see it so I can prove my point to certain members here :P

Would be great if I ended up liking though but yeah who knows!

I feel the same way sometimes the only way for a BLU to get announced is if you splurge on the DVD and as soon as you watch it BAM BLU is announced or rumored.

Vampyr's page does not list the "monaural sdtk. on the BD version" text anymore for those keeping score.

Bummer.
