The fourteen year old boy AND older dude thinks that the cover and much of the movie is pretty great. Harriett was not only a tremendous actress, but a true beauty.

I've been known to watch film noir from time to time.

In fact, that's what I loved about Ex Machina.
[Show spoiler]There's a definite "femme fatale" element to the movie.

I picked up World on a Wire at a used store a few months back, but it's sitting in the middle of the unwatched stack. Soon.

I know this sounds far-fetched, but is there a chance in the near future that 12 Monkeys will make it to the Criterion Collection? I mean they have four of Gilliam's films already in there (Brazil, Fear and Loathing, Time Bandits, Fisher King).

I think it's an interesting concept, but the execution is flawed.

I can't really see the face unless I'm looking at a picture of it on google.

Without the face, the design and the color scheme are a bit ugly imo.

So that's what it's suppose to be? hahaha I've looked at that cover a dozen times since I bought it a month or so back. Never figured out what it was. Came to the conclusion it was just a bunch of dots.

Easier to notice in the above image though, so I just looked at the cover and put it on the shelf, stepped back a couple metres, and now I can see it.

I wouldn't expect it. With the 12 Monkeys' TV series now in full swing, it's free promotion for the film. Obtaining distribution rights might be a little too costly.

It also appears as though the current blu of The Adventures of Baron Munchausen has gone OOP. I wonder if that is coming . . .

For instance, the upcoming new release of "Breaker Morant", gets perfect 5/5 Marks for both PQ & AQ. PQ isn't a huge thing as Director Bruce Beresford was involved (to what extent, who knows, but he Was there ), & it was a 4K restoration:

But, the Audio is another story. A 1.0 track gets a 5-Star mark?

So, a 1.0 LPCM track has shootouts that are incredible, & Separation, Depth, & Dynamics are substantially praised.

I'm no Expert at all, but a 1.0 track gets written up like it's the latest Action/Sci-Fi/Adventure film from 2015 with AMAZING Audio? Huh?

Lol, now please, be kind & don't slam me too hard; as I said, I'm no audio expert but I Do know what to expect on most (remastered) catalog titles. This movie is 35 years old. Am I really out of line in questioning the scoring system for any movie that comes stamped "Criterion" ?? Is EVERY movie from them That Incredible, mainly, the Audio side of the house.

Have you ever watched some of these older flicks on DVD or even VHS? Audio was often rough, with a hiss running throughout, and dialogue could even be inaudible at time. The mono tracks on these BDs are much improved from what we've heard in previous home video incarnations. For these types of tracks it's all about clarity.

Here's a recent criterion release that got a poor review:

Wait, I thought cases were to protect the stuff inside. Would the next step be to use something to protect the sleeves that protect the cases?

I've been seeing alot of people with poly sleeves, I was wondering how they got some that covered the cardboard boxsets. Hence why I asked. Thought it was a nice concept, and since this thread has turned into list making and case talk, thought someone knew.

With the box sets I just leave the shrink wrap on and carefully cut out the side that the discs slide out of. It doesn't look the greatest on the shelf and I have to be careful putting the box back or it'll peel the wrap off but it helps keeping some of the more fragile sets intact.

There are multiple reasons why the grain may appear blotchy or patchy. One possible reason is an old transfer with limitations/issues. Another possible reason is weak encoding. This being said, grain does not have universal appearance. In other words, depending on the format, it would appear either over/underexposed to the untrained eyes.......

Outstanding! This is like a class in film restoration and grain....with examples. Do you teach, Pro-B?

I shared the link to your post to several friends who like film, so you and the the forum will get some well-deserved credit. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Just to further prove how uneducated I am (in so many ways) ...

I watched Contempt for the first time about a week ago. While I didn't have a problem with the music itself, it somehow bothered me the way
[Show spoiler]it was cued into the scenes. I don't know how to explain it ... like the music theme was very repetitive and came out of nowhere at the least expected times
.

Maybe I need a second (or third or fourth) viewing.

Godard does that with the scores for almost every one of his films, in some cases to the (deliberate) point of annoyance. He's kind of a ********, in my opinion, even though I adore many of his movies. You can be avant-garde and not be disruptive, but he's not that type.

FYI...I emailed Jon Mulvaney two nights ago and said there's a rumor floating around the web that he doesn't really exist and is nothing more than a digital myth used by Criterion to appease the masses.

I asked him for proof of life.

I have not received a response.

...this is not a good sign.
