The Mulholland Dr. listing on the Criterion website has been updated. Turns out the "More!" is a deleted scene.

Quote:

•New, restored 4K digital transfer, supervised by director David Lynch and director of photography Peter Deming, with 5.1 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack on the Blu-ray
•New interviews with Lynch; Deming; actors Naomi Watts, Justin Theroux, and Laura Harring; composer Angelo Badalamenti; production designer Jack Fisk; and casting director Johanna Ray
•On-set footage
•Deleted scene
•Trailer
•PLUS: A booklet featuring an interview with Lynch from the 2005 edition of filmmaker and writer Chris Rodley’s book Lynch on Lynch

Demy The Young Girls of Rochefort and Bay of Angels.

Varda Cleo from 5 to 7.

Chabrol Le Beau Serge.

Resnais Last Year on Marienbad.

Also Chronicle of a Summer.

All with different styles, and different levels of 'challenging', and if you ask me I really can't fault one for not being more like the others, they all have something special for me, which reminds me I really need to see Hiroshima mon amour next.
I am going to jump into the New Wave discussion and throw in Louis Malle to the mix. IMO his contribution to French Cinema ranks amongst the best during that period and continued until he passed.

I agree, but I do not like Zazie dans le métro at all.

I didn't put him because the only one from the period I have seen is Zazie Dans Le Metro and I didn't enjoyed that much when I saw it, but I think once I started to accept its craziness I started to enjoy it more in the latter half.

I really like some of his other films I have seen so I need to give Zazie another chance.

I posted this over in the film's thread, as well, but here ya go! Start complaining and arguing about the chosen color scheme for the blu-ray approved by Gus Van Sant and the DOP.

Check out his first two films, Elevator to the Gallows and The Lovers.

Well, the skin tones look more natural on the new transfer, but I never seen that film, I guess we will have to accept that Van Sant remembers how it looked twenty something years ago

Also how did Criterion decide in the first place to use that color scheme in the original DVD?

I'm a steelbook collector, but love these releases. Mostly the Wes Anderson films as I love his films. These are the best bluray released of his films with some amazing artwork to match the feel of the films. Godzilla was my first ever purchase of a Criterion release and I love it! Will definitely be hunting more down.

I've got the DVD at home. (got an immaculate condition copy from iScottie. **plug for his storefront - click below his sig and check out his selection. a lot of good stuff at really fair prices! **)

I've had a couple false starts w/ this film in the past. I want to love it because I am a big fan of River Phoenix. Now that I know what to expect, maybe I'll fare better with it.

the packaging for the DVD is gorgeous, btw.. great looking, beautiful booklet

I hope Criterion has some Taiwanese films lined up for future releases. I've been delving further into the New Wave, with the two most recent ones being The Terrorizers and A Summer at Grandpa's, both of which were superb in their own ways. I've been vocal for a A Bright Summer Day release for the longest time, mainly because we've been teased for a while now (and if the TCM premiere is any indication, I imagine its release will be sooner rather than later), but that's only a sliver of the selection.

It's just distressing to think a number of vital films from a rather notable movement don't have a stateside release - Hou-Hsiao Hsien's films, in particular. Here's hoping that changes in the near future.

I have a UHD 4K television now. Ho ho ho.

[Show spoiler]

Earlier today, when I had the afternoon off, I replaced my 32" LG 1080P television with this LG 49" 2160p 120 Hz UHD 4K TV.

This was halfway a spur of the moment thing and halfway something that has been on my mind since I bought my new home two months ago. I initially went to Best Buy this afternoon with the intent of shelling out $350-$400 on a good 49" to 60" 1080P television. I looked at the 1080P sets, then looked at the 4K sets just to see how astronomical the prices were. Some of the smaller ones were in my price range, but the 49" and 55" 4K televisions in that particular Best Buy had support setups that I did not care for, since my television sits on a chest in my living room.

I then went to Target, and found the above LG 49" on sale for $699, and, since I've loved my LG 1080P television, it was a quick decision. Unfortunately, that Target store was completely sold out of the set. They did a search for me, and all of the Targets in the area were sold out of the set as well except for one store on the other side of the county. I drove 13 miles to the other Target after reserving the televison, and bought it there. The Target clerk notified me that this television was eligible for a 10% discount, so that helped sweeten the deal. I bought it with the 4-year Target protection plan, took it home, and set it up.

I watched a few minutes of Casino Royale, which is still my "demo disc" of choice. I then watched a few minutes of a Zatoichi film. Finally, I watched a few minutes of my all-time favorite film, Out of the Past, to check how black-and-white films look on the set.

I'm loving the television so far. I only sit about six feet away from this 49" television, so the fact that it is small for a 4K set is of no concern. It actually fills up my living room just like I wanted it to.

One strangely spooky thing...
I hooked up my Blu-ray player and HDMI to this new television, and went into the menu to see if there was a similar "Calibration Wizard" that my old LG television had. As it turned out, my custom settings from my old LG were already present on the Expert 1 picture setting of this new LG. Not sure how that happened, but the settings are pretty much identical, from what I can remember.

Needless to say, I'm looking forward to watching Gilda on this set.
Congrats on the new set, it looks nice. And thanks for the quick overview... and I'm thinking that I may change my choice of "demo discs" now as well.

I keep thinking about a new TV, not that I need one, but I love my plasma and really not sure what to do. I keep thinking of simply getting a bigger plasma, but I too sit only 6-7 feet away and already have a 42" set. Again, it's not that I need one, i'm just worried when I do need one, I won't like anything like I do my plasma. I hear the OLED are good, and the UHD 4k are as well, i just get a little freaked out. Even though prices are coming down, good TVs are not cheap and I can't stand a bad tv. I have family members that bought what they thought were good TVs on black friday for a few hundred dollars and I hate watching them. Too much motion blur, bad colors, and overall poor quality. I know I sound like a snob, but aren't most of us here that way?

Anyway, thanks for the info Owl! Good to hear you got a great TV.
