Or maybe not. I sure got a little sissified last night, watching Eyes Without a Face! When the film first started, I thought, "Oh this is fun! A good, old-fashioned corny horror movie!" A little further into the film, as Alida Valli started to seem a little sinister, and with Maurice Jarre's bizarre score pounding in my head, I was reminded a little bit of Dario Argento's Suspiria, which also featured Valli and a nerve-wracking musical soundtrack.

Then I got to a certain scene
[Show spoiler]... the surgery scene ...
and after first guffawing at how fake and overly simplistic it looked, I ended up actually getting a little nauseated and very creeped out! I wasn't expecting anything that graphic at all. I kept waiting for the camera to cut away and the scene to end, and was shocked when it didn't. Very well done, indeed, and it scared the beejeebers out of me.

I ended up loving the film and I enjoyed all the supplements, except the one that I saved for last, Franju's short documentary, Blood of the Beasts. I watched about two minutes of it, and then when I realized I where Franju was taking me, I realized I just couldn't go there and had to turn it off. I went and spent some time with my little Black Lab instead.

Anyway, I highly recommend Eyes Without a Face. And I wish Criterion would get the rights to Suspiria away from Synapse Films. They've been sitting on it for quite a while now, and it richly deserves a Region A release.
Glad to hear you enjoyed it

My Criterion library organized by spine number, with my remaining Criterion DVDs separately. Ordinarily the BBS box is inserted in its proper numerical sequence, but it currently would fall half on the 2nd shelf and half on the 3rd shelf, so I'm waiting until I add another film with an earlier spine number to do so.

All titles are by spine except for box sets sitting on a shelf above my Criterion cabinet.

Similarly I regard Mulholland Dr. as the scariest film I've ever seen. It certainly has my favourite jump scare. I do find Inland Empire to be genuinely terrifying too.

Other favourites include The Night Of The Hunter, which I'm surprised to see hasn't been mentioned here yet, Diabolique, Halloween 3, Nosferatu, The Beyond and Dawn Of The Dead, which probably serves as my favourite horror film.

I find the general mood of the film to be extremely unsettling, but if you want something specific then this bit.

Also I will add the themes of INLAND EMPIRE are pretty scary, I won't go into detail due to spoilers.

And Rabbits is pretty eery.

William Becker, who bought Janus Films in the mid-60s with a business partner, has died. Mr. Becker and Saul Turrell bought the company at a difficult time for art-house films, but they grew the company to what is today, which includes the Criterion Collection. Mr. Becker's son, Peter, is the current president of the CC and Mr. Turrell's son is the CEO.

That would be a solid month even if that was it.

Ha, guess I should have added a few more titles! But, these are the 2 I'd love to see.

Le Samourai, the Before Trilogy, and/or Inside Llewyn Davis will make me very happy.

I say the same thing every month, but I'm still hoping for more Bergman and Powell & Pressburger.

Recently purchased and watched It Follows. It is definitely a very creepy movie, and easily one of the best horrors in a very long time. Love the music! The blu ray disc comes highly recommended by me.
And after watching It Follows, my girlfriend and I were inspired to purchase The Entity, partly because Scorsese lists it as one of his favorite horror movies. It is fantastic as well, and the bare-bones blu ray disc is underrated.

how bad is the 'image blur' issue on the I Wish Blu-ray? I haven't seen the film yet, but was excited to see that it can be imported for $13 or so... then bummed that there seems to be some kind of issue w/ the PQ
