This Mulholland Drive chapters discussion brings back all of my bad feelings from the fact that my CD of Prince's 1988 album, Lovesexy, features the whole album on a single disc track so that I'm not able to skip to the best songs.

The struggle is real, people.

I think that the shop that sells these is in the Chicago 'burbs. they might even have a storefront location.
Beside the picture settings that irk me, mine seems to have a problem with the HDMI port where it will 'glitch' for a split second or turn the screen completely black for a split second. I've considered replacing it as I have a warranty, but I rarely use it. The LG I have had for around 3 years is from Bombay Electronics, who as far as my experience with them goes are legitimate. Haven't had a problem with the player, no added DNR, region free at the press of a button and has all the apps I want. Whenever you start looking for a different one feel free to PM me if you have any questions, I also have a Sony from them I think model 1200 which hasn't had an issue

awesome! thanks, man. I'll do that (pm, that is)

I think I know what you're talking about with the screen going black. it like loses connection for a (literal) second. my tv will say 'no signal.' I guess this convo isn't going to make anyone rush to buy this player. but I've only noticed that happening at like the end of the film when it is going from the feature back to the main menu. odd, yes, but it doesn't affect the playback at all and resumes as normal.

What is the problem with picture settings on Seiki? My PS3 stopped working so now the Seiki is my only blu-ray player, but I never noticed issues or differences in PQ compared to the PS3, it is pretty slow and noisy though.

About the skipping of chapters, is it confirmed somewhere that it unlocks after seeing it? or was that a joke? never heard of such a feature on Eraserhead, I would really like to skip to my favorite scenes like the one on Club Silencio.

Edit: I am talking of Seiki SR212S, just to be sure, there is probably another multiregion Seiki player.

I'm fairly sure Kuro_sawa has the SR4KP1 like I do. I, personally, have never noticed any issues w/ the PQ on the Seiki. There is some discussion about it on the dedicated thread. It has to do with sharpness.

Aside from the little 'glitch' we mentioned, which to be honest I'm not sure how prevalent that is as I turn the player on once a week if that, my gripes with it lie in its forced picture settings. There is a sharpness setting that can only be set to 'Low' and a brightness that must be set manually to be close to correct on a calibrated set. If you have a screen larger than 32-42" these things might bother you, then again they might not be much of an issue. I don't think it's an awful player for the price, especially being region free, but I think it's worth mentioning that for a little bit more money you can get a "name brand" player with a warranty and not have to worry about these things.

It was a joke. There's no such thing.

How many of you out there really need chapter selection though?

When I watch a film, 99.99998% of the time its from start to finish. Since I'm not a film teacher, I also never have to worry about playing a certain "chapter" or sequence to a class (but I think chapter selection is probably an essential feature to have for film scholars/teachers).

It's refreshing to see a director who still thinks outside the box when it comes to home video entertainment and in some ways he wants to change the perspective (no pun intended) of home viewers. When we go to a movie theater, do we have chapter selection? No. So we should treat a film as a "whole" piece of artwork at home as well. And that's what David Lynch's films are: art.

I'm assuming it's right before the end credits or something.

Mulholland Dr. in particular has many scenes that can be viewed and appreciated on their own, specially since I don't think everything fits perfectly together, besides when you already know a film, what is so wrong in watching only certain scenes?

I agree that if you are going to watch a movie, it is better to watch it in one sit, but for films I have seen already and know the whole context, I do see certain scenes alone when I don't have much time, I am specially a fan of scenes that involve musical numbers or something similar, so it makes sense to me to only watch those parts, I guess that is why the bookmark options exists in the first place.

In the end, the people that want to watch only certain scenes or not in one sit, will do it, it will just be more inconvenient because the director decided against it.

I'd say that I watch from start to finish around 50% of the time.

…and I’d say that I’ve watched a movie from start to finish without bathroom breaks, undesired interruptions or the need or desire to hear a line of dialogue again before moving on twice in the last 3 years. Yes.. twice.

Twice...nice.

Can you recall which 2 films you were thoroughly riveted by that kept you glued to your tv screen for the entire duration of the film?

People are probably just mad that they can't skip to *that* scene in Mulholland Drive. Haha.
