They haven't hinted at its release but did mention in the past that it was not yet on blu-ray but on Hulu. I can't imagine they'd not release it on disc.

The film would have a lot of fans in this thread once they see it.

This sounds like me, too. I was curious enough to see some of the major foreign classics (e.g., The 400 Blows, La Dolce Vita, etc.,) but most of what I used to get excited about were the films that came out during “Oscar season.” I still see some of those films, but my success rate w/ them is probably less than 50%. I’ve seen so many great films and have come to develop an appreciation for why they are great, that I approach these newer films entirely differently – noticing obnoxious musical cues, contrived plots, etc. I’ve become quite a snob.

I'd be curious to see what special features Criterion would come up with.

However, the opening scene is terrific.
Yes to everything you said.

Although to be honest...I didn't think it was one of Burt Lancaster's better performances.

Being his very first film, it feels like Burt Lancaster before he really found his voice as an actor.

One of the most discussed topics in science fiction fandom is the very definition of "science fiction". One popular work (published as a mainstream title, rather than as an SF title) that really challenged some definitions was James Michener's Space, essentially a fictionalized version of the history of the space program.

Others have questioned the continuing categorization of nuclear war scenarios as SF, arguing that nuclear weapons not only exist in real life, but they've even been used in war. And yet most fans and critics still treat them as legitimate SF.

The late SF author and critic Damon Knight defined "science fiction" as "whatever I point to and say 'that's science fiction'". It's about as good a definition as any.

And that's not even getting into the whole "Star Wars is fantasy, not science fiction" argument.

The flash sales are usually about six months apart, so probably in March sometime.

p.s.

I am sorry for the delay guys. There have been some external issues that impacted my schedule during the last 7-10 days. All should be back to normal before the end of the week.

True fact: One of the reasons why I held off on buying additional Criterion titles from the Flash sale after using my $10 credit to buy The Honeymoon Killers was so that I would have enough entertainment money left in my budget before payday to buy the Blu-ray of San Andreas next week.

I saw San Andreas at the theater a few months ago, and it absolutely rocked my face. I'm not winning any indie street credibility points here by admitting that, but I've got to have that Blu-ray, especially on my new television setup.

I appreciate the recommendation! I saw a preview for San Andreas on another blu-ray and it looked like it might be a heckuva fun flick! Now I'm sure to buy it sooner rather than later.

Having enjoyed Errol Morris' The Thin Blue Line so much last month, I decided to watch another of his documentaries tonight, Standard Operating Procedure, a film about the Abu Ghraib prison. Fascinating, disturbing, and provocative pretty well sums up my reaction to it. Afterwards, I decided to decompress and watch my newly acquired copy of Stephen King's Christine. I have to "mix up" my viewing like that to keep my viewing sensibilities sharpened.

Why do terrace malick films reverberate my room so much? I just watched tree of life and it wasn't nearly as bad as thin red line was sinve every 5 minutes hey movie was causing my room to shake due to some weird resonance thing my speakers caused. Anyways i have noticed it in other movies but it's not that bad in even big action scenes.

Hey, we like what we like! King Kong vs Godzilla isn't likely to show up in the Collection anytime soon but I enjoy the hell out of it just as much as some titles that are.

It's because Terrence Malick's spirit has possessed your multimedia system as he "recommends that his films be played loud".

I wish I could find a copy of their version of The Third Man on Blu-ray that cost less than a week's pay.

To each his own. San Andreas bored me to tears, short of a lesbian scene between Carla Gugino and Alexandra Daddario, not much could've made it exciting to me.

Had har
I watched eraserhead just the other day louder than I watched thin red line. And that was really effing loud. But no reverberation problems with that one. I noticed in thin red line it was this deep rumbling noise that was constantly in the background. Hard to explain and I'm not sure what channel it was coming from but probably the bass

Try watching them on your terrace, where they were meant to be seen.
