Repulsion is definitely a good film. Bit of a slow decent into madness is probably the best way I can describe it.

That's pretty spot on from what I remember, it's been a while. May have to rewatch it for Halloween.

I love Catherine Deneuve. It's an excellent movie but was emotionally draining for me. Same thing with the non-Criterion Possession.

My first Criterion DVD was either Diabolique or Fear & Loathing. Cant remember exactly but bought them both around the same time.

My first Criterion blu was Belle de Jour. Seems like everyone else I also love Deneuve.

My first Criterion Blu-rays were their first three: Chungking Express, The Man Who Fell to Earth, and The Third Man. Their release was what inspired me to make the jump to Blu-ray.

My first Criterion DVD was The Killer, which was also the first DVD of any kind that I bought. I hadn't made the jump to DVD at that point, but I'd heard that it had recently gone OOP, and so I grabbed up a copy when I ran across one in a local store.

None of them were blind-buys, as I already had three of them on Criterion laserdisc. I didn't own a copy of The Man Who Fell to Earth until I bought the Blu-ray, but I had seen it in the theater when it was first released back in 1976.

My first Criterion LD was Blade Runner, which I bought in Feb 1988, a month after I got my first player.

After about 6 months, I was so sad about the decision I bought a sealed copy for a little less than I sold my other one for.
I'm pretty sure I told this story before, but...

Went I switched to DVD, I did start selling some of my LDs on eBay (but not Criterions). One of them was The Year of Living Dangerously, which was bought by a professor of film studies at the University of Calgary named Maurice Yacowar.

A few days after I shipped the disc off to him, I received a copy of the original silver jacket edition of Criterion's Invasion of the Body Snatchers, which I had bought from another eBay dealer, and was surprised to see that the audio commentary on it was by the very same Maurice Yacowar (though he was at the University of Guelph at the time he did the commentary). I had had the later, digital sound edition of the film already, but never listened to the commentary.

In fact, in looking them up, it appears that I had bought the DS edition in January 1990, and the silver jacket edition exactly (at least to the month) 10 years later.

I did a test cart and it has gone back to normal levels - four titles came to just under $12 to the UK. Hopefully it stays that way for the sale!

First Criterion DVD was The Red Shoes in 2001 - a blind buy but The Archers were already my favourite directors and the disk had Mr Brooke's seal of approval (I sold it when I got the ITV BD, along with Col. Blimp and Black Narcissus... wish I hadn't had!).

First BD was Last Year at Marienbad in January 2010, complete with white digipak. Oddly I only bought another ten Criterion blues over the next two years but numbers have been rising exponentially ever since!

My first Criterion purchases were the old Criterion DVDs of Seven Samurai and Rashomon.

Now, the first Criterion movie that I ever watched was Time Bandits, since I watched it at a friend's birthday party back in 1983 when I was 11 years old. I had no way of knowing way back then that it would be a Criterion title, though.

Grand Illusion was my first Criterion, and yes, it was a blind buy. Many of my purchases have been blind buys since and they haven't let me down much.

DVD of 8 1/2, and I didn't understand what the spine number meant. (This was like 2010 or 2011.)

I ordered blus of Seven Samurai and 12 Angry Men in June 2013 because they were considered essential titles for your collection. Both were blind buys. I had no idea what Criterion even was at that time and was hooked once I saw the packaging for Seven Samurai.

Despite being an old admirer of the label, my criterion initiation was hindered due to the region-coding.
But eventually when I became Region Free, I summersaulted in with both feet

[Show spoiler]

Although they're all part of the same haul, I'll gladly pick Sweet Smell Of Success as my first criterion.

My first Criterion purchase was the Blade Runner Laserdisc. I didn't purchase that many on LD since they were quite expensive ($50-$100 plus) Also back then, you couldn't purchase them online and other then Tower Records, they were only sold at a few specialty stores. I purchased a few other Criterion LDs Akira, Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, and Beauty & The Beast. I eventually purchased Seven Samurai on DVD and I think my first Blu was Wings of Desire.

I don't remember exactly but I think it must have been The Lady Vanishes on DVD in the late 90s or 2000. Either that or Dead Ringers. Again I can't remember but I most likely had seen them both as I was in college at the time and couldn't afford to spend $20+ on blind buys.

I'm going to assume my first Criterion purchase was Death of a Cyclist on DVD. Because it was the cheapest DVD of all the Criterions when it was released and knowing me the first time I buy anything from a company would be the cheapest one available.

Either that or it was Pierrot le Fou on DVD.

The very early years of Criterion on LD and DVD were way out of my price range. Their prices had slowly started coming down since around 2007. I have been *renting* Criterion DVDs since the late 90s, though.

LOL It just dawned on my that Benjamin Button was actually my first Criterion. I must have suppressed that memory.

They have 2 brand new Criterions I want for only pennies more than what next month's B & N sale would cost me with sales tax.

I've e mailed them, asking if they use a sturdy box to ship in, since these are Criterions, but thought I'd ask here as well.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you again bwdowiak ! Both Criterions arrived today in mint condition. Genuinely sealed and not a ding, or a dent anywhere.

Thanks anyway, Barnes & Noble, but I won't be needing you this time.
