Videodrome or Scanners would be a good start. Not in the Criterion Collection but also The Fly. It's my favorite Cronenberg film.

I saw him last May ... 4th row seat. Very interesting guy. He changed up the composition on a couple of his major hits to the point that I didn't recognize them until well into the songs, only because I recognized the lyrics (which isn't always an easy thing to do with Dylan, heh).

I ran into another avid Criterion collector while in the store. He jokingly said that he doesn't watch any of his Criterions, but only buys them. Ahh, somebody I could relate to. (Of course, I *do* watch them, but sometimes I go through them so slowly, that it feels like I don't).

If I had to take any film out of any box set, it would definitely be that awesome double feature of "Drive, He Said" and "A Safe Place" from the BBS set. I could watch "A Safe Place" on a constant loop.

I watched Videodrome last week for the fourth or fifth time and it always impresses me with how weird, disturbing and smart it is. And it's themes and ideas are probably even more relevant today with the virtual world we live in than they were back in the early 80s when the movie was made.

I think it's Cronenberg's masterpiece.

...although I've never seen Scanners or The Brood.
