I wouldn't say it's horrible but it definitely wouldn't tip me into the 'buy' column if I was on the fence in a store.

Phase Two of my November 2015 Criterion Sale Haul is complete...

The Apu Trilogy
In Cold Blood

As I posted earlier, I was leaning toward waiting until I received an additional Barnes & Noble coupon this weekend or next weekend before buying The Apu Trilogy, but I ended up being right next to a Barnes & Noble this afternoon after a work inspection in the next county, so I figured that paying a few more dollars today instead of having to leave my place and make a special trip to Barnes & Noble this weekend with a coupon made more sense. Besides, I got a fair deal with $66 and change for both purchases.

The Apu Trilogy is a total blind buy for me. I'm not as well-versed in cinema as several here, so I didn't quite get the big deal about this set, but the Internet Movie Database accolades and the gushing anticipation here led me to be adventurous.

Next week, I will close out the November sale by purchasing Ikiru.

Also, when I got home, I found Passage to Marseille, The Black Swan, and One Deadly Summer in the mail. Woo hoo!

No more Criterion box sets until I catch up on my still-unwatched box sets. Unless, of course, there's a really cool box set release during the next couple of months.

Okay, this is how it is...

The next time that somebody here in this Criterion thread fails to appreciate the significance of Julie Newmar in the Catwoman outfit, I'm leaving the forum forever.

Oh, I appreciate Julie Newmar in the Catwoman outfit. And Yvonne Craig in the Batgirl outfit. I was 13 when the show was originally on the air; the two of them helped me get through puberty. But they don't make up for the pain of dealing with everything else the show had to offer.

On edit: I should mention that whatever pluses, nostalgic or otherwise, can be had from Julie Newmar in a catsuit, they can be had even more enjoyably by Diana Rigg in a catsuit.

The Batman TV series box set also ensures that the top actor in my Blu-ray collection stays on top.

Of course, the fact that the show brings back some childhood memories in spades was another factor.

EDIT: It's remarkable how one single purchase elevated Shintaro Katsu to the top 10 in the above list.

Steering this ship back into Criterion waters...

I'll take this opportunity to mention that the Criterion title, Judex, is really about a hundred different kinds of awesome for reasons that we have been discussing here.

I'm totally with you in keeping your top blu-ray actor on top. Anyone who teams up with Chief Screaming Chicken deserves the title

Thanks, guys. It's about to get real in about 5-10 minutes.

And I like Criterion Forum, but this place is home.

(edit: this is what I was referring to: https://twitter.com/Criterion/status/666782934578262019)

And I kind of like that cover ... maybe because way back in the day, I wanted that DVD so badly. I kept going into Frye's in Texas and picking it up, trying to talk myself into a purchase. When I finally did pony up for it, I watched it three or four times in the first month I owned it. So there's a sentimental attachment there ...
