Heading to B&N in a bit to pick up The Apu Trilogy, Nashville, and Ikiru. Thinking of picking up one more and was looking at the Rosellini/Bergman set. I'm a big fan of Bergman but I can't say the same for Rosellini. I saw Rome, Open City at the Film Forum in NYC and didn't find it very engaging. Can anyone comment on this set? Would you recommend it even if I didn't quite enjoy Open City?

FYI - To maximize savings on Criterion releases, I have used a combination of the Jet.com $20 off $50 code (NEWTOJET) twice (I had my sister create an account and order my second batch) and the Barnes and Noble additional 30% off coupon (30BFRIDAY).
So far I have spent: La Notte Blu Ray Eraserhead Blu Ray ($30ppd from Jet.com) In Cold Blood Blu Ray La Dolce Vita Blu Ray ($36.14ppd from B&N) The Vanishing Blu Ray L'Avventura Blu Ray Il Sorpasso Blu Ray (just under $47ppd from Jet.com) Not an insane amount of savings, but enough to allow for another few purchases today. Hope this can help some other people save a few bucks :-) Last edited by PrestonXI; 11-27-2015 at 02:44 PM. |

The Weekend and Eating Raoul are available for $5 each as part of the Entertainment AIDS Alliance's Annual Home Entertainment Sale. Just ordered both.
Per their Facebook page, I used Twilight Time as "My Company" and "twilight" as the password. http://www.entertainmentaidsalliance.net Sale ends December 4. Last edited by Paul.R.S; 11-27-2015 at 03:11 PM. |

Which film in the collection have the best commentary tracks (in your opinion obviously)?
I am always drawn to the commentary track on The Double Life of Veronique personally. Also how do you like to watch them with commentary - I love to watch them film normally and then straight after watch again with commentary (and subtitles). Which sometimes leads into a 3rd viewing as normal to view what was discussed by the commentary. Last edited by Polaroid; 11-27-2015 at 03:50 PM. |

I love Stephen Prince's commentaries for the Kurosawa films. My favorite among them is for Kagemusha which gives you a lot of historical perspective on the characters in the film as well as dissects Kurosawa's film-making techniques rather neatly.

The American Friend and Rififi play this weekend. I'm definitely going to see the Wenders. Whether or not I see Rififi comes down to how badly I want to watch another film from the stack of blu-rays. I still haven't gotten to the new My Fair Lady blu because of all the Saturday screenings. |

Part of me admires them for explaining the film, but often times, I would rather form my own interpretations and theories. |

But once i have my own option on a film I do enjoy reading reviews/others options, but I never tend to read reviews or anything before seeing a film :P |

Same here. I rarely read reviews of new films I plan on seeing (However, I may read the reviews after seeing the film). Maybe it's because I'm fan of directors like Allen and Malick and their reviews are almost always mixed.

Watched this last weekend. This is a close 2nd behind Sunset Blvd. as my favorite Wilder film. Great packaging, too. |
