I haven't read the book. All I know is after films like "Salo", "Antichrist", etc., I felt positively chipper compared to how I felt after "Under the Skin". I didn't necessarily hate it, but I can't think of a film I've seen recently I'd want to rewatch less.

Heh, I'm the exact opposite. I read the book some 12 years ago and really didn't like it (a huge disappointment after having read the brilliant "Crimson Petal and the White"). I obviously expected the movie to be just as bad, or worse, but I ended up being really impressed by it.

I'm glad it didn't have too much in common with the book.

I didn't read the book, so I don't have any feeling on that, specifically, but it does bug me when it has so little in common with the book that they might as well have just made an original story.

I don't blame you! I did not like Under the Skin either! I saw it once in a movie theater in Manhattan on a rainy night and it was right after I saw that documentary on Jodorowsky's Dune.

The reason its my avatar is, I've just been too lazy to change it! Ha.

That's hilarious man. I'm in the same boat with Grug. I assumed you were a massive fan of "Under the Skin" haha.

It was the best advertising the film got in terms of targeting me. I constantly thought about the movie when I was on here.

For all of you going for a copy be prepared to shell out $150 for a copy. Maybe even more now.
For a good deal less than that you could get a region free blu-ray player and the excellent UK blu-ray from Studio Canal.

I think that Under The Skin is brilliant in its uncomfortable-ness. And I'd be lying if I said that I don't like most Scarlett films, even if this is a ... unique one for her. And Jonathon Glazer is a genius. I just wish he made slightly more films.

Also, and this is not Criterion related either, but I thought it might fit somewhat: My copy of Out 1 is arriving tomorrow sometime before 8pm, according to Amazon! Oh baby! A film I've read about for years, heard so many references to, and I'll finally have it, in all it's 13+ hour and 4 hour and 120 page book loveliness. I have NO idea when I am going to be able to get around to it, but I'm just damned glad that I'll finally have a chance to delve into it, headlong.

And FINALLY going to see Carol tomorrow. I've been procrastinating WAY too long.

OK, that's it for my updates-which-no-one-in-his-right-mind-would-care-about.

For now.

What???

Thinking about it because of your avatar (and someone else here) is what in the end convinced me to buy it, even if it didn't blow me away, I still liked it and kept me thinking for days about it, so will like to see it again.

BTW if anyone here is interested in a region free player, I am planning to sell my Seiki SR212S for $55 free shipping, it is in great condition and didn't really got that much use, just wanted to let anybody here know before I offer it on the proper forums, or eBay if no one bites.

Under the Skin was my favorite of last year, Ex Machina was my favorite movie from this past year, and I'm also a big fan of Solaris (1972). I'm not really sure what this says about me. Maybe I just like chicks who aren't actually human. I dunno.

Haha oops JW sorry man. I have no idea why I haven't seen it yet. Really no reason. Every sale I intend on buying it then like a random title I read about in here like Pale Flowers or Bad Timing bumps it down...

I really found Under the Skin unsettling sexually and creepy. A beautifully shot movie that was stuck in my head days after. I also thought it was one of the top 10 last year.

There's a new version coming out in the UK this year. If that has a 4K transfer and the Bowie commentary then I can see it denting the value of the Criterion (which I have).

Rather than watch the NCAAF championship last night I felt obliged to watch a Bowie movie. I watched The Man Who Fell To Earth for the first time.
I'm a big fan of Roeg's Criterion releases and while this wasn't my cup of tea I still found it captivating. This role was made for Bowie.

Unfortunately the film lost me in the last third when it began to meander. I realize that was intentional for the narrative, but I thought it really had potential to be a great film. 7/10

Count me as a fan of Under the Skin. Probably a top five from this decade and my favorite sci-fi since I don't know.. Blade Runner?

Plus I love that poster.

Just saw 45 Years last night - terrific movie! Andrew Haigh can't be stopped. This is probably one of my favorite dramas about an older couple this side of Make Way for Tomorrow. Would be incredible if this made it into the CC! "Unfortunately" Haigh and the two stars (Charlotte Rampling and Tom Courtenay) already have "Explore" pages so we likely won't find out via phantom page hints.

Wrote a thing here - kinda spoilers so be careful.
