Not denying that, is just that well this is a forum, we are here to talk, it goes without saying that you recommend your top 5 films of his whatever those are.

But I can argue with so many great films out there, not every good movie is worth watching, when you could see great movies, not just good. But I guess once In a while we are bound to love a movie which the consensus is that it's a minor work, which didn't happen for me after watching his sequel to Wings of Desire.

Ok I am compiling the list of the best living directors based on the They Shoot Pictures list, and while I am not finished, I can tell you are all wrong, the winner is pretty clear:

Jean-Luc Godard

So now we can stop arguing

1.) Band Of Outsiders
2.) Alphaville
3.) Breathless
4.) Vivre Sa Vie
5.) A Woman Is A Woman

I will admit that there are many many I still need to see however

I have to agree with you Edward... I think a lot of people miss the point of the frogs scene, because IT IS SURREALISM! It's a remarkable scene of surrealist cinema actually, and if people take that literally, they're fools...absolute fools...or actually, Philistines, who don't understand cinema.

I posted a few weeks ago about my frustration with Godard... I just cannot stand a lot of his work...people either say he's great or terrible, but for me its neither... he just doesn't resonate with me. He is creating pretentious art installation moving pictures...that's what Godard is to me in a nutshell.

His name should be GODART... the god of art.

Jean-Luc Godard (can't say I like many of his films, but he is undoubtedly one of the greatest still living and probably at the top of the list)
Nicolas Roeg
Jim Jarmusch
Michael Haneke
Wong Kar Wai
Hirokazu Koreeda
Aki Kaurismaki
Roman Polanski
Milos Forman

I could keep going...actually, the list is pretty long. Many of the greats alive today, like their deceased predecessors, are multi-talented, some also being great writers, actors, or cinematographers. My favorite directors are almost all gone, but I think there is still a lot of talent alive today.

Hell, I think Clint Eastwood is one of the greatest living directors.
