2016 is a leap year, and I don't know about other countries, but here in Greece is considered a bit of bad luck year.

By Grabthar's Hammer!

Yeah, 69 as well, and also died from cancer.

He had a lot of marvelous roles, but I think my favorite was in Anthony Minghella's Truly Madly Deeply.

Oh man... Rickman's Hans Gruber is still one of my favorite villains.

Any Leos Carax fans? I don't think I saw his name in anyone's living directors lists.

The definitive release of Charlie Chaplin's The Kid has arrived.

An outstanding 4K restoration that is guaranteed to have a reserved spot on all prestigious Top 10 lists at the end of 2016. The bonus features are also very impressive. Fans of silent cinema should be quite pleased with Ben Model's technical analysis. Fantastic.

Buy this release, folks

Very cool. I have half a mind to blind-buy this on one of the next B&N sales.

He was great in that role. Hell, he was great in everything I ever saw him in.

RIP, Alan.

He was the only thing worth watching in Nobel Son (From the director of Salute Your Shorts). Hey, it was a free screening.

Hey guys, I've been wanting to ask a question about your experiences when ordering from Best Buy. I've been buying some of my Criterion films from them, and the service has been great. The last order I put in included Tokyo Story (this on December 20th). I think the film was listed as back ordered at the time, but I can't remember for sure if that happened right before I placed the order, or shortly after. No worry, as the $19.99 price point made any wait a non issue. I can always rewatch it on Hulu in the mean time.

With Criterion announcing that they are releasing the film in a Blu-ray only edition, meaning the DigiBook will be discontinued, is it likely that Best Buy will receive no further copies of the DigiBook between now and March, when the new edition comes out? I received an email that it's still on back order, and if they don't have an update by Sunday, they might cancel the order. I don't mind waiting longer so long as I know I'll get the DigiBook copy eventually. But if I might not get it, I need to cancel the order, and find it elsewhere, albeit at a much higher price. Criterion's store still has it, but it's $32 there plus shipping. Amazon is temporarily out of stock on it, too. They list it as $29.48. Are we sure that Best Buy and/or Amazon will get this in, or is it possible Criterion is no longer shipping this movie out? I can't believe they'd go more than two months with the film out of stock.

Thanks for your input!
Can anybody give me a suggestion on how to proceed with this? My luck, I'll wait, and the Digi will go OOP on me.

Definitely me. Very late to the living directors discussion but Carax would be in my top 5. Not as prolific as many others but also not a single bad film in his oeuvre. Holy Motors being the most recent is a fantastic film. I know there is a lot of love for Mauvais Sang on this thread.

I don't have experience with Criterion movies from Best Buy, but I have found that BB and Target are quick to cancel/modify orders. It seems like they have more glitches in their inventory than Amazon.

If they are showing them as out of stock/backordered, then I would be inclined to think what they get in will be the new BR replacements and not dual format.

Thank you for the input. I'll contact an Amazon rep to see if I can get a definitive answer on what will next be in stock.

sorry, Shell, but your post reeks of "you guys are picking on Malick and I don't like that."

if the conversation stemmed from a review of a new Scorsese or new Woody Allen film, would you say the same thing? because their films haven't changed much in 4 decades or so. Its just that their films aren't as good as they used to be. that's all that mja and others are saying.

It'll get some technical awards, but that's it, I imagine.

I will trade you the digipack for the plastic case if it doesn't work out for you. Just PM me when you find out.

Whoa, is it nearly time already? Hopeful for announcements tomorrow as Tuesday is a long ways away!

And also because I've been a fan of Jan-March, so I'm hoping April continues the trend.

I thought their selections were pretty bad. Especially Best Picture.

Edit - Adam McKay and Tom McCarthy for Best Director?? What?
