I got a chance last night to see the North American premiere of one of Sion Sono's (many) 2015 films. When i went to use the bathroom i saw they had a Seven Samurai poster on one wall, and a Zatoichi poster on the other. Easily one of my favorite Men's rooms.

Still would like to see Sono film make it into the collection.

That's misleading. It means that exhibitors can get Blu-Ray discs to play their films. I am friends with the indie theater and know that they get discs rather than prints often. In fact I'm pretty sure their screenings of Apu were from Blu-Ray.

Of course I expect these out anyway. Night on Earth is the big surprise.

Of course, that might simply be due to the fact that In a Lonely Place has been my most requested Criterion title for quite some time now.

If this comes to fruition, then I'm probably not out of line in saying that I've already chosen my favorite Blu-ray release of 2016.
As my avatar would suggest, I am thrilled about the news. Given that the DVD release is pretty decent, I would hope that they would be able to get a stellar transfer for the release.

If anyone hasn't already read it, I highly recommend people check out the novel the film is based on. They are different in a few important ways, but both the novel and the film are great.

Maybe now that they are going to release one of my most wanted titles I will have to change my avatar to another one of my most wanted titles...His Girl Friday.

Nah, I'm positive "Blu-ray" in this case all point to a Criterion release down the road. I can say for sure that that's the case with at last 4 of the titles listed.

oh, i don't know who named the jpg, but it says "lonely plates".

Someone at the Criterion forum suggested "In a lonely place", but would they draw "plates" for "place"?
Is that the plate's shadow or can it be leaking, blood maybe? Another reference to In A Lonely Place ? I've never seen the film.

Guess this means I need to give In a Lonely Place another shot...

For an "adaptation in film" class we had to read the book (which I loved) and see the movie; maybe it was because the movie deviated so much from the book I couldn't get into it. I loved the disturbing tone of the novel (
[Show spoiler]it's all from the perspective of a serial killer
) while the film went in a completely different direction.... I should try it again now that it's been a couple years and the book is less fresh in my mind.

Chiming in late here, but I really enjoyed this film. I had no idea what to expect going in, and definitely relate to your initial feelings. Going in, I was actually hoping for a bit more performance footage, but ended this ended up being a great experience anyway. The Monkees have nostalgic value for me, and I appreciate their unique place in pop culture history.

I agree. Also, if indeed those are plates and some people do use the term "place settings". So "In A Lonely Place" is quite fitting.

In a Lonely Place will be the second Dorothy B. Hughes adaptation in the collection. The other is Ride the Pink Horse. The novel is out of print as a standalone, but is included in Library of America's "Women Crime Writers" set, which I need to pick up now.

I love the film so much that I hesitate to say that someone should read the book first. I think it would be best to go into the film totally blind. But I guess you could say the same about the book. I can't say as I haven't read it. Yet.

By the way, I think this might be the first monthly clue that I've guessed before I read about it on this site, so it has to be In a Lonely Plates.

Could "dishes" allude to another word?

URL states they're plates. Even says they're lonely, which pretty much seals it for IALP in my opinion.

I watched The Manchurian Candidate last night and holy hell it was great. I liked it significantly better than the other Frankenheimer film I've seen, Seconds. I didn't know Angela Lansbury, my dear Mrs. Potts, could be so cruel. There were great performances throughout, really, and the dream sequences were probably the best parts of the film. I'll definitely be picking it up during one of the half-off sales.

Lots of chatter in the MOC thread about the possibility of Criterion releasing in the UK. I'm surprised it hasn't spilled into here yet.

How would everyone feel with Criterion releases in the UK? How would you feel if there Criterion UK only releases?

It's like the backwards version of all the Arrow discussions I've seen!
