Thought to post this here since Criterion has already 3 Malick films and we're waiting for the 4th one.
First stills from Voyage of time! My most anticipated movie of the last 10 years!

http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplayli...-time-20160224

my only concern though would be the CGI dinosaurs.
I would hope they were more like Jurassic Park, a combination of CG and animatronics.

I still wish there was a narration free version.
I wish Malick would let the images speak for themselves.

I'm waiting for the day Moon gets Criterion interested in adding it to their collection.

Thought I post it here instead but if I ordered the BD/DVD Dual format of Thief through Criterion's website will they actually ship that version out? I know its OOP but they still had it on the site - Probably last remaining copies? I recently noticed that they changed the listing to the regular BD only Special Edition which happens to be on Backorder.

I check my Order history and shows Catalog No. CC2324BDDVD which happens to be the BD/DVD Dual Format.

Sorry for the repost, but this originally got lost in all the excitement about the Criterion flash sale (which I took advantage of too). Hope someone here can help...

The packaging is weird on both.

- For "The Earrings of Madame de," the foldout disc-holder and booklet go in from the left of the bookcase packaging, not the right as usual. Is this missing any other packaging?

- "La Ronde" has only the foldout disc-holder. It's sealed (but likely a re-seal, if I had to guess). No bookcase or any other type of cover. Is that the complete packaging, or am I missing anything?

I'm happy just to score Criterions at these prices, so I'll take what I can get, but definitely curious if anything's missing.

Thanks!

I love the Beastie Boys and i heard it is a great collection but i would rather have it on Blu ray then DVD.

Lately I've been fascinated and drawn more towards mood, tone, intention. I can be transported by movies that to the average viewer might go 'nowhere' or is about 'nothing' but I feel completely different.

Most 'plots' and narratives have been done a million and one times. It's not so much what's happening, but how it's happening.

But that's just me
You're right boss, I think the same thing is happening to me. It's not so much "plot" as it is "content." And it's not so much structure or conflict I crave, as it is momentum and pacing. I'm slowly warming up to those concepts more. There are still some films that bother me with their pacing and content, but approaching films in this manner does let me appreciate films like Benjamin Button, films by David Lynch, Terrence Mallick, Richard Linklater, Tarkovsky, etc.

Is that even in print still?

I wouldn't hold my breath, it seems like a lot of older Criterion DVDs will never get an upgrade. And their release announcements seem to focus more on new titles rather than upgrades.

EDIT:
Looks like the DVD is still in print, I'll have to buy it next chance I get.

Watched some DVD-only Criterions yesterday.

Carnival of Souls--This is more of a character study couched within the trappings of the horror genre. Candace Hilligoss does a good job of making her character easy to empathize with--alienation functioning as horror. It also really captures the spookiness of small-town America. It might be time to get this on Blu-ray, although the DVD holds up quite well for an early Criterion DVD.

The Living Skeleton--Part of the "When Horror came to Shochiku" Eclipse set. Great black and white cinematography. REALLY cheesy skeletons. Toy boat is obvious too. Pacing is all over the place, but as far as Japanese b-pictures go, there is some artfulness here at least.

It is still in print on the criterion website you can still buy it but of of course DVD

I know I am glad they are making newer movies part of the collection so i can see more films but it sucks they arent really worrying about their DVD's to upgrade.

But every now and then they have remastered them to Blu-Ray but it takes to slow or never happens. They still need to do Red Beard, Stray Dog, Sisters, Beastie Boys Anthology, The Killer.

I just want them all.

That's why I thought it was great when people were going insane when "Inherent Vice" came out last year. It is one of the few experimental films to come out of a major studio in a long, long time and people had no idea what to make of it. The film, like a David Lynch or Jodorowsky movie or "Last Year at Marienbad", was much more about the overall effect on the viewer as opposed to telling a coherent story.

There's always a place for a great narrative, but experimental cinema is something that is becoming more and more infrequent today.
It's one of the problems with the kind of stuff that's taught when you're in elementary and high school. At some point in english class, they break down the mechanics for what constitutes a "good" plot and unfortunately many students then take this to heart for the rest of their lives and apply it to everything related to storytelling. The problem is, at some point you run into stuff--whether it's books, film, or comics--that defy what you've been taught in school and you find yourself unable to admit or explain why you might have actually still enjoyed them. It always amuses me when a straight-laced "by the book" viewer finds themselves enjoying something completely unconventional and then struggle to try to explain that it actually still fits into their conventional viewpoint of what makes a "well constructed" narrative.

It's bad taste but all I thought about with your post is headline, "yes the director of Moon his father would approve of it being upgraded to Criterion." Since all week I've seen him on the news saying no they wouldn't of approved of lady Gaga's performance but would of approved of Lorde's performance. It's like can't we all enjoy Bowie's music in peace folks..

I wish film theory and just film classes in general were mandatory in every High School. But of course, I'm ridiculous and crazy about cinema.

We could stick a kid wearing a "I'm Jon Mulvaney" t-shirt on the floor in front of her, Sarah wistfully running her fingers through the kid's hair, as he looks at the camera, with a tear streaming down his cheek, saying "ich bein ein Criterioner."
OMG! It all makes sense now! "Ich bin ein Berliner." A Berliner is a donut. What's the Criterion logo? A donut with a bite taken out of it.

The conclusion is obvious:
[Show spoiler]Jon Mulvaney killed Kennedy!

I agree and I'd even extend it to include a media class.

I'd settle for a class on critical thinking. You could apply it to so many areas of life, including the appreciation of art and media; however, we're not educating kids to think, we're educating them to ... aw, never mind. That's a rant for another forum.
