Kind of a waste of a newsletter clue since they already had a clue in the New Years drawing in January.

Am I correct that they have, in one form or another, released 26 of Kurosawa's 30 films (with Dreams set to be #27)?
I believe they've released 27 of his films. I thought it was 26 too, but apparently they released Dersu Uzala on Laserdisc back in the day. Rhapsody in August and The Quiet Duel are the only others, besides Dreams that they've yet to release.

Well, that green lightbulb could have been a clue for Green Light (1937) As for Dr. Strangelove, I'm not sure how Criterion could top the Sony edition. Yeah, I know it's OOP in the states, but copies can be had on eBay for reasonable prices.

Maybe, but we also knew that the rest of Chaplin's films would eventually be released

In other news, my flash sale discs should be arriving tomorrow. I'm so very glad to be living fairly close to the Kentucky warehouse.

I wonder what the rights issues are with The Quiet Duel? That's seems like the least available of his films generally.

The Criterion LD had the variable aspect ratio, though I think this one falls into the realms of the old Kubrick wouldn't have requested that for the home viewing had widescreen TVs been a thing argument.
It's probably top 3 Kubrick for me, so I'll be happy with anything they manage to unearth or create for this one. I have the Sony release, but I'm very happy to double dip for extra Kubrick!

How will they improve upon the Sony BD of Dr. Strangelove? I don't understand. It's just unneeded.

I remain ever-hopeful for a future Eyes Wide Shut release with all possible aspect ratios.

Wait, I'm confused...

I read the blurb about Malick and The New World coming, but what's the clue about body fluid? And is Dr. Strangelove coming as well? Where is this confirmed?

NEVERMIND: Just got the newsletter!

I would be thrilled if Criterion were to announce Dr. Strangelove, since I still do not own the film on Blu-ray.

Funnily enough, I still haven't seen Dr. Strangelove in any format. It's one of the glaring holes in the breadth of my cinematic knowledge.

Exactly. That film needs a proper release. Dr. Strangelove doesn't.

Exactly my initial reaction.

Bought the steenbok last year and the transfer is great and the special features are very good.

...how about Glengarry Glen Ross instead?
