I always go back and forth about which is my favorite between "Three Colors: Blue" and "Three Colors: Red".

They're both so damn good.

Masterpieces.

It's been forever since I've seen Three Colors, but Red was definitely my favorite.

I have not seen "Contempt", but after looking it up, I am intrigued.

High praise on Three Colors: Red!
I agreed to watch The Forest with the family yesterday and then my wife bailed on me to go walking. I'm holding that over her head tonight to watch Red.

Add me to the list of people who think the Kieslowski criterions are essential.
I really hope The Decalogue comes our way soon.

I watched some Criterions this weekend.

Ashes and Diamonds on DVD - amazing movie. The Wajda box set is really incredible. I had no idea what to expect, but thoroughly liked all three movies.

Identification of a Woman - I liked this more than I thought I would. I love Antonioni, but I'd always heard this was kind of a misfire. It's definitely different than his earlier films, and I think the first half is better than the 2nd, but I really enjoyed a lot of this. There was actually a good deal of it that reminded me of Eyes Wide Shut. I know Kubrick had always been a fan of La Notte, and it made me wonder if he liked this movie. Although the party scene isn't as scandalous as the party scenes in Eyes Wide Shut, I felt like the were a lot of similarities (the exclusionist elites, the secret conversations, the paranoia of being watched / of being an outsider to this crowd, etc).

Inb4 there is a terrible fire that destroys all the copies of Le Samurai and then a computer glitch destroys any scans Criterion and any other company has.

That's fine. Just as long as nothing happens to Le Samouraï.

I've always enjoyed White and never understood all of the hate it gets.

It's a phenomenal film. I do think you need to have a bit of a background on Godard, in having seen some of his other films, to truly appreciate and enjoy it though.

I found it to be the weakest of the three films - I struggle to decide if I prefer Red or Blue...

Aside from Breathless I don't care much for Godard's catalogue, but I thoroughly enjoyed Contempt.

It's right there with 8 1/2 and Day for Night as one of the best films about filmmaking.

Living in Oblivion is a great film and making a film -

I love all three films...but for me, "Red" is my favorite. I think of it like The Dude's rug. It "really ties the room together".

I just read the Criterion forum, and someone says that he doubts that the
[Show spoiler]"ingrid Bergman documentary"
will be a main release but as a
[Show spoiler]supplement to something
.

I hope so too!

Janus released it theatrically, though, so I don't see why it wouldn't be a main release.

The Three Colors trilogy is amazing, I think Red is the better one, but what always amazes me is the beauty of the leading actresses selected for the trilogy, that is a much harder decision and as much as I like Binoche, this time I have to go with Red again with Irene Jacob
