Add me to the list of people who think the Kieslowski criterions are essential.
I really hope The Decalogue comes our way soon. I watched some Criterions this weekend. Ashes and Diamonds on DVD - amazing movie. The Wajda box set is really incredible. I had no idea what to expect, but thoroughly liked all three movies. Identification of a Woman - I liked this more than I thought I would. I love Antonioni, but I'd always heard this was kind of a misfire. It's definitely different than his earlier films, and I think the first half is better than the 2nd, but I really enjoyed a lot of this. There was actually a good deal of it that reminded me of Eyes Wide Shut. I know Kubrick had always been a fan of La Notte, and it made me wonder if he liked this movie. Although the party scene isn't as scandalous as the party scenes in Eyes Wide Shut, I felt like the were a lot of similarities (the exclusionist elites, the secret conversations, the paranoia of being watched / of being an outsider to this crowd, etc). |

Inb4 there is a terrible fire that destroys all the copies of Le Samurai and then a computer glitch destroys any scans Criterion and any other company has.

It's right there with 8 1/2 and Day for Night as one of the best films about filmmaking. |

The Three Colors trilogy is amazing, I think Red is the better one, but what always amazes me is the beauty of the leading actresses selected for the trilogy, that is a much harder decision and as much as I like Binoche, this time I have to go with Red again with Irene Jacob
