Though he doesn't mention Criterion..I know this has been rumored for them...John waters states his next project is Multiple Maniacs fully restored. He states it now "looks like a bad John Cassevetes movie." Haha. I personally look forward to this.

Another home re-color timing job here, because it was NEVER this color in 1980. Such a shame.
I'm curious to see when this teal-era will end.
it's getting ridiculous already!
if all restorations end up looking like that, i prefer unrestored scans from prints (not negatives where they have to color grade from scratch)
i honestly can't take it any more seeing various films with the exact same color blanket all over them!!

Now i fear about The New World resulting like this!

Well Lubezki is helping them so I doubt it will happen to The New World... Plus we've seen what they have done with the transfer so far and it doesn't look like they have messed it around.

Well, he helped in Badlands too

at least he was the cinematographer in this one, so I doubt there will be problems too.

$58.20 out the door for me. Before it was announced, I was at best, hoping for individual releases to replace my DVDs. Arrow is picking up the slack on some of my other "groups" of discs. I never took out the DVDs and the Blu-rays are in a nine-disc plastic case.

You now can sell your DVDs for $60 or even more if you will never use the original packaging so it would be pretty much free

Some friends of my wife and mine have started being interested in classic films.

Last night I screened The Wages of Fear which, though they appreciated the film, they feel they have earned some lighter fair. They particularly love screwball comedies.

Screwball comedies seem to be fairly underrepresented on blu ray so far though? Or at least I am not aware of too many.

I don't think there is a good thread for the genre (like there is for film noir, for example)

So far I own:

Palm Beach Story
Sullivan's Travels
Design For Living
To Be or Not to Be
The Devil and Miss Jones
Some Like it Hot
How to Marry a Millionaire
The Seven Year Itch
Charade

I am also aware of these ones being available on blu ray:

Ninotchka
It Happened One Night
Bell, Book and Candle

As well as the Coen Bros movies that qualify.

Any one got any other suggestions I might not be aware of?

That's a pretty good list. I would ad The Front Page and Nothing Sacred for classic films, and What's Up, Doc for a modern take on the genre. The latter was Peter Bogdanovich's tribute to the genre, specifically Bringing Up Baby. Also, many Woody Allen movies such as Manhattan Murder Mystery and Bullets Over Broadway would fit the category.

Thanks for those!

I missed The Front Page coming out.

Never seen and had no idea Nothing Sacred was a screwball comedy - Man, that cover doesn't position itself as one at all!

I've never seen What's Up Doc, either, so I'll check it out.

Thanks again!

Unfortunately, Bell, Book and Candle from Twilight Time went OOP as of April 2015.

I Married a Witch starring Veronica Lake is a lovely little gem.

Peter Bogdanovich's What's Up, Doc? is a modern tribute to classical screwball comedies, especially of Howard Hawks.

Although it's not usually classified as a screwball comedy, It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World might be a good choice.

If you think Charade is a good screwball comedy (which I agree), some Hitchcock thrillers would work as well. I strongly recommend The Lady Vanishes, The 39 Steps and especially To Catch a Thief in that context, to say nothing of more famous ones like Rear Windows and North by Northwest. (And if you don't have any problem with Region B, I recommend Young and Innocent, too)

A romance rather than a screwball comedy, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir I cannot recommend highly enough.

And of course there's The African Queen, a John Huston adventure movie featuring one of the greatest chemistries ever filmed.

I have I Married a Witch - I considered adding it to the list, because I think it's at least in the ballpark, but haven't seen anyone else say so.

I have all of those Hitchcock films, and do intend to screen them (or try to get them to the cinema to see some of the ones that are about to screen in the Hitchcock festival coming up). Big Hitchcock fans over here.

The Ghost & Mrs Muir and The African Queen are both in my collection to be screened for sure!

I don't own It's a Mad Mad... yet, but that's a good idea.

Finally ordered In the Mood For Love . I love Hong Kong movies but I am not much of a romance guy . However, ITMFL is just about always ranked as the #1 Hong Kong movie of all time.

I watched As Tears Go By this last weekend and I REALLY enjoyed it (triad-love story by Kar Wai Wong) and just wanted to sample more of his work. Should be fun .

My wife and son usually wake up late on Saturday...waking up at 8 AM and going to the livingroom to watch it with zero interuptions. I like Maggie Chung in everything she is in ....so that is another plus.

I just ordered the movie today from Amazon and paid an extra $2.99 for one day shipping. $30 in total...I was going to wait until the July B&N sale but got the itch to see it.

Agreed, that's a good list. I've had To Be or Not To Be sitting in a pile of movies to watch since I bought it like six weeks ago. I need to push it up on the list. Just too many movies to watch, and not enough time. But that's one I really want to see.

I have about half the ones you've listed. To be honest, I don't consider Charade a screwball comedy, simply because Audrey Hepburn's Regina character doesn't exhibit typical behavior for women in the genre. She's more the damsel in distress after her husband is found dead, not the woman-in-charge I'd expect. And Cary Grant's character is certainly stronger than the typical male in a screwball comedy. And, while the dialogue was crisp, from memory, it didn't exhibit the rapid-fire delivery that I've come to expect from a screwball comedy.

I would add Capra's You Can't Take it With You to your list. Another I'd consider adding is Libeled Lady, which I am watching tonight. I won't know just how good it is, obviously, until it's done, but it's always been given high marks, so I'm hopeful. It's a Jean Harlow vehicle, also co-starring Myrna Loy, William Powell, and Spencer Tracy. That's a hell of a cast.

Seems to be a lot of the French companies doing this. Pathe did The Lover, which was slightly tealed but more yellowed, but they also did The Bear, which was heavily tealed. Gaumont tealed Atlantic City, and Éclair tealed RAN.

Cameron has teamed up his stuff, as well as other films here and there, but I see a trend more in the foreign restorations than US ones.
