On to blu-ray, I just got my copy of Marienbad in the mail today. I'm surprised they went back to the books and cardboard cases. My copy of Seventh Seal was in a clear plastic so now it sticks out like a soar thumb from the rest. Does ya'lls copy of 7th Seal have a slip cover?
Good morning,

Criterion did not go back to the cardboard cases. Last Year at Marienbad is a title that was prepped for release quite some time ago.

Only the future will prove that to be the case one way or the other... Still think it's cardboard DVD case = cardboard BD case (as of a coupla months ago when the plastic cases were finally introduced).

They will continue to use both styles of cases I'm sure. Just like with their DVDs, it's on again, off again.

DVDBeaver's comparison of Criterion's DVD & blu-ray of "Repulsion." Enjoy!

Only on the inside...

No Honestly I can't wait for the day when Replusions hits my doorstep. I really like Polanski's work and to have this movie on Criterion Blu is like a dream come true. After reading the reviews here I just want it all the more.

I wasn't trying to be distasteful...... I just think she has a classic beauty about her........

I've been eagerly awaiting this title for quite some time.

I dig Roman Polanski, so I'll be picking this up when it's released. I wish best buy had prices like amazon Great review too.

The only Criterion BD i've ever seen at best Buy was Curious Case of Ben. Button

I usually have to go to Barnes and Noble and usually one store in the area gets one copy. Really poor ordering on Barnes and Nobles part.

Blu-ray.com and DVDBeaver both apparently like that particular shot. DVDBeaver tends to pick the most provocative shots for their screengrabs, although I could have done without the one of the boiled cat or whatever it was.

This makes two Catherine Deneuve films on Blu-ray following The Last Metro.
It'd be cool if Criterion could get the rights to Belle de Jour by Luis Buñuel. It's coming out on Blu-ray in the UK but it's most likely going to be region-locked.

I am still in mourning over the fact the US won't have a release for CONTEMPT... I am sure Criterion fought to try to keep it.. not likely to be given good treatment by another distributor.

Yeah, both Contempt and Ran would have been must-haves on Blu-ray had Criterion been able to release them.

At least we are getting Pierrot le Fou and Kagemusha.

Which company was it that now has the rights? Was it Lions Gate or maybe the Weinstein company? At any rate is it in their best interest to release RAN and or Contempt? Cause to me there companies can't sell the titles as well as Criterion can.

Criterion would certainly use higher bit rates etc on their titles... it feels like we could lose out.

I hope those at Criterion are still dealing with trying to keep the titles somehow. But it is our loss.

I am hoping that for the announcements this month they list a date for RED SHOES ... dying to see the new restored version. It feels like it will be forever before we get to see it. Hopefully they don't lose the rights to Red Shoes. (for those curious about the UK BD release you can see shots off it restored in the DVD beavers review... http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/dvdcompare/redshoes.htm )

If I remember correctly, Contempt and Ran were licensed from Studio Canal, which was bought by Weinstein. Weinstein seems to be hurting for cash; maybe they just wanted a better deal.

I only have a few (~15) select criterion DVD's, but Kagemusha and Ran are 2 of my favorites. I also like the film Equinox but I'm not sure why
