I loved Blow Up when I saw it three years ago, hoping it's going to be a UK release eventually (craving the Before Trilogy and MaCabe and Mrs Miller more).

That 45 Years cover is just incredible.

Some good features on the old Warner disc too. Not sure what they could add, but a restoration would be great.

Perhaps another Browning film as an extra to give the running time some more weight?

Anyway, this is pure fantasy.

Some interesting titles but for me, Being There might be the only title I'm interested in, aside from Blow-Up. I love the cover art for both, esp. the former. I'm surprised John Waters hasn't had a title in the collection until now too.

A Lon Chaney box set would be awesome too. Archives has a ton on DVD, but I could never justify biting the bullet on them.

Multiple Maniacs is a must-have for me and a JW commentary is always a treat to hear.

No silent classics. Those are mostly what I'm looking for, since I'm mostly a classic comedy nut. Oh well, I've never seen Being There and definitely enjoy Peter Sellars, so I might keep an eye on that one.

All this talk about Warner making deals with Criterion has me somewhat hopeful that The Cameraman might see blu-ray some day.

Canoa was a surprise, nice to see it getting the Blu-ray treatment. A good film that I look forward to rewatching in HD. Will probably pick up Blow-Up later on too.

I forgot it was the 15th. Being There is a great surprise. New 4k transfer to boot. Don't have to twist my arm to upgrade.

Any or all of those would be great additions to the CC. I strongly endorse The Breaking Point to Noir fans no matter who releases it.
A Face In the Crowd would be the perfect companion to Ace In the Hole.

Count me in for 45 Years; I love Haigh's Weekend and I've heard nothing but great things about this film. I'll have to research the others to see if I want to watch/purchase them.

An interesting month of releases, to be sure. I'll buy Blow Up, but after I finish the L'Aaventura trilogy. And I love Peter Sellers, so Being There is an absolute no brainer.

Oddly, the film I'm most excited about is 45 Years. I know it has been released already, and I've been meaning to add it to my collection. But I had this gnawing suspicion that Criterion would add it to their lineup, though I didn't expect it so soon. Charlotte Rampling is a tremendous actress.

There's supposed to be a 4k Night of the living dead coming soon. Not sure if its Criterion though. Hopefully it is!

I hope that they will continue to do more John Waters films including a reissue of Polyester. It has been a long time since that one has been a part of the Criterion line.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned that Blow-up apparently comes with a book.

I read that and was excited, until I saw what it entailed. I think they might mean booklet since it's just an essay and some other content included. I remember another time recently where they wrote "book" and it was just a regular booklet (albeit bigger than some others). I think it was with The New World.

edit: yep, The New World

How would you guys rate Blow-Up in relations to the trilogy? What makes for the best introduction?

It doesn't really compare at all. Blow Up's significance was largely a matter of timing. It was a risque film in a conservative era and mostly appealed to Anglophones, but Antonioni had already established himself as an innovative master years before he made it so in that sense it isn't overly impressive.

It is a pretty good film, but not top 5 M.A

Best introduction? Probably L'Avventura. It's his most influential and discussed film.

Story of a Love Affair is great if you want to venture into his more neo-realist influenced work first (and narratively focused if that matters to you)

Red Desert is my personal favorite (and one of my top three or so films ever). But know you're going straight in the deep end of the pool.

Zabriskie Point is a must if you're into the counter culture. You've got a Pink Floyd score. Jawdropping widescreen vistas. But again, this is the deep end of the pool too.

...I better stop here before I rattle off every film he made.

Co-sign. And they have to release it with the Odorama card!
