A Short Film About Love does have a very different ending, there is no consensus on which is 'better', but this is worth seeing it both its iterations. A Short Film About Killing plays largely the same in both versions so the feature length is probably the way to go.

Just finished episode three last night and have been really enjoying the experience.
Watch them both. A short film about love has a different ending in the film version to start with.

It's the 15th! Announcements should be tomorrow.
Excitement around here sure has waned compared to previous years.

Maybe, maybe not. Tomorrow is a holiday (either Civil Rights Day or Martin Luther King Jr's Birthday, depending on what state you live in). Government offices take it off, but it's a crap shoot as to whether private companies do. I don't know whether or not Criterion takes it off.

Since DVDWORLDUSA closed I've not been as excited tbh.

I miss seeings loads of films announced that I want, and then being able to preorder on DVDWORLDUSA! and getting the release weeks early for a really good price.

Now its waiting till they are officially released... finding sites that are affordable or having to wait for sales.

Its just not as exciting

Anyone here have freezing problem with:
Island of lost souls & diabolique? These movies used to play just fine (watched them multiple times)
And now I can't even watch them. I'm freaking out because
I have over 300 blu and have no idea which other movies
are affected by this.

Last night I watched that controversial title in the catalog, Jellyfish Eyes. I enjoyed it, as I expected to, since I like a lot of modern anime, but I can see why it might not be considered Criterion material. Apart from being the first film by a noted contemporary artist, it didn't seem like anything special.

What surprised me most was how gorgeous the photography of the ordinary was - the countryside, skies, towns, pavements, buildings, etc. Overall the film is visually beautiful, except during the CGI-heavy denouement, when it looks like every other grey and dull modern film. Susprisingly the creatures themselves were nothing special - and the CGI really sticks out!

I haven't done the supplements yet. Will I discover something that makes me realise why it is in the collection (aside from my first point)?

Rewatched The Music Room the other day. I was on the fence about it for years, not being overly keen on Ray, but I'm glad I took a risk at the last B+N sale because it is a real grower that works on so many levels. In some respects it's comparable to both The Leopard and Sunset Boulevard (in a weird way), but its depiction of historical change is less obvious and bombastic than Visconti's classic. It's easily the best looking film of Ray's that I've seen too.

Great film. 8.5/10

For me, it's a combination of things that have somewhat dampened my enthusiasm:
Less upgrades
Titles that already have Blu-ray editions from other companies
Some titles that make me why they're coming from Criterion in the first place
Cutting back on extras like booklets and commentaries

And finally specifically the around here point-I used to enjoy camping out here on announcement day and waiting and guessing with other members what that month's titles would be and then the reactions from everyone. Now, with the phantom pages loophole and all the subsequent spoilering of comments I avoid this thread and just go to the Criterion site for the announcements.

I still get excited, but it's a little anti-climactic these days because of the trickle out of phantom pages. I could avoid looking at/for them, but I can't help it

I'm just hoping for Se7en and Polyester, judging by some takes of the NY's drawing.

But all I want are more Aussie films.

A Criterion of "The Castle" would be very much appreciated.

It'll go straight to the pool room.

I absolutely love that film; so much so that I purchased the Australian import. It's very funny and one of the best films about true, family values.

There are some really bothersome criterion reviews that haven't been done yet.
Only the first Apu film has been reviewed... what about Aparjito and Apur Sansar?
The latter in particular is one of the best films in the collection, which is especially impressive considering it's the third in a trilogy.

I'm also baffled that Les Blank: Always For Pleasure hasn't been reviewed, nor has A Poem is a Naked Person. Neither film receives much mention but they were among the absolute best things put out by Criterion in their respective years of release. I would really hate for documentaries like that to become an even lower priority because of bad sales.

Not that a review here will make a massive difference, but many times the Blu-ray.com review is among the top search results on Google so a little more exposure for outstanding releases wouldn't hurt. Apu doesn't need help selling well, but Les Blank could benefit from it.
