Glad to see Howard's End is coming. Now I need Maurice in Blu ray to have the entire EM Forster / Merchant-Ivory trilogy.

Not too worried about the price, these things will even out on Amazon and elsewhere.

JOYFUL for their choice of titles -- "Himmel über Berlin" being an absolute favorite, and the other two very good films that I'll gladly revisit via CC.

And, above all, we finally got to see THREE Blu-rays a month, something that should be a standard from now on.

Parade has to be rained on, of course -- why a DVD-only edition of "Z", of all things?

Just canceled my Amazon order on Repulsion and got it at B&N online for $18.29! Thanks for the info guys!

And I'm worried about these price increases...I hope they don't stick.

And just quickly, two of the three announced films have their artwork up, and it's really beautiful:

One thing I don't like about Criterion is their packaging, card box thing, cheap stuff. Why don't they just use blue cases. As for their prices,I saw one today, $44.95....a bit over the top I would say.

They've stopped using the cardboard packaging back in May. Except for the one release that needed the physically embossed cover -- Marienbad -- and the Paramount-coproduced one -- Button -- all their discs come in very good transparent Amarays now, so you can stop worrying about that. We all can.

If the Criterion store price for these new releases is $39.95, Amazon's should be in the $30 range, and with the Christmas sales and whatever, they should be okay. We just had a bunch of older titles decrease to less than $20, and I'm inclined to give Criterion a break for their price hike in this economy. As long as they stay solvent, I don't mind forking over a bit of extra cash.

I'm glad to see we finally have a release date for Howard's End. It's a great film that I cannot wait to add to my Blu-ray library.

Wow 49.95! It took enough to come up with 40.00 before.

I wrote to them and told them thanks for going back on their word of sticking to the price point of the DVD or BDs which they stated over a year ago.

I think it will be harder for people to come up with an extra 10.00.

Nice to see 3 titles for that month, but it feels like you can only afford one.

and the UK already has RED SHOES!

Yes, it is just you. Just do a regular search through B&N's website. Don't even use the drop-down menu to look for a specific DVD title. Just use the default product search. That's how I found "Repulsion."

EDIT: I'm not finding "For All Mankind" right now, either.

Are all Blu-rays going to be in the plastic Scanavo cases from here on? Has this been confirmed by Criterion? This is the first I've heard of this...

Got it, thanks

(although, For All Mankind says "This title is not available for ordering")

Whatever they want to charge is fine.... Amazon and others will have sales, and I'll happily lap it up.

Agreed, I'm sending Mulvany an email to get to the bottom of this. They said when the Blu line wannounced that pricing would be the same as regular DVD titles. Theses titles (except Howard's End - Blu exclusive) are $39.95 on standard DVD, so the Blu-rays should be the same, not $10 higher.
Though I'll buy them regardless, so there's not really anything backing my complaining, I just like to vent sometimes.
