crap, so the $61 copy of pierrot le fou i won on ebay was the DVD version(seller listed it wrong).

obv i'm going to open a case, but i might as well go for the studio canal version and save $40 right?

EDIT: Don't really expect an answer to this, i think the consensus IS the studio canal version. im just venting

It may have been the same prints, just not cleaned up.

"New video essay by filmmakers Tony Zhou and Taylor Ramos, analyzing Curtiz's directorial techniques"

...is it safe to say that Zhou has given up his Every Frame a Painting side-gig for being a hired Criterion employee? So far, he's currently doing essay work on their FilmStruck page, and he hasn't updated on his youtube series for months.

Yeah, the 5-disc box Godard Collection is by far the easiest way to go. 5 films, including Pierrot, for $35. Region 2.

Do you mean Region B, or is there a dvd version?

Yes, I meant B. I'm distracted, because the Tigers are in extra innings against the Orioles. Sorry about that.

Ashes and Diamonds
Kapo
La Strada (getting this one for sure, but chances it'll be announced for blu?)
Loves of a Blonde
Pygmalion
Knife in the Water (pretty sure the ending was ruined for me )
Except La Strada is coming-out remastered Region B next month, and both Ashes and Diamonds and Knife in the Water were released in Vol 3 of the Scorsese Masterpieces of Polish Cinema box set.

Man, I'd love a Hughes collection (including Career Opportunities and Some Kind of Wonderful).
Weird science hasn't aged well at all. Still good to look back on though just for the very young Robert Downey jr wearing a bra on his head & Bill Paxton's Chet, especially when he is transformed at the end

Just waking up in the morning gotta thank God.

I don't know but today seems kinda odd.

No barking from the dogs, no smog.

...and Mulvaney cooked a breakfast with no hog.

I was away for about 5 days but I'm back (from NYC)!

The announcements for August (my birth month) are unfortunately a bit underwhelming. Maybe Criterion took off a month and focused on a pair of upgrades but for me, the only one I'm interested in is: Sid & Nancy (because a blu-ray is better than a DVD)...and maybe Meantime (because I like Mike Leigh's movies).

Ironically, Gary Oldman stars in both films. "Criterion in August" is a big month for Gary Oldman fans.

That's fantastic. I have never heard that song before, but I'm a big 80s pop music lover. I've heard other FoS, of course, but not that one. Wonder how I missed it.

I wonder how many times Frank Whaley purposely screwed up this sequence before Hughes finally had something he liked.

(Jim)"You're on top"
(Josie)"Did you want to be on top?"
(Jim)"Oh, no. I'm fine where I am."

(John Hughes)"Cut!!!!!!

Ok, let's try to get it right, this time. Take 127.

Speed.

And....action....."

Yes, I am a pig, too, and I freely admit it. Paul Bettany, you are a lucky man.

I'm not joking.

What I'm about to share is the pinnacle of the world wide web phenomenon, and it is everything that mankind has been working toward with this technology for so many decades.

(drumroll, please)

Someone made a YouTube video consisting of scenes of Jennifer Connelly in Career Opportunities to the tune of "Space Age Love Song" by A Flock of Seagulls.

This really, really is the greatest thing in the world.
The person who created this video needs to win a Nobel Peace Prize or something.

As for today's announcements, nothing that I wanted, per se, but a couple of these announced films intrigue me, based on the feedback you guys have shared. And that's one of the reasons I am here, to learn, and be exposed to new things. So, thank you. I'm sure a few will work their way into my collection.

You might want to know it's available on Blu in Germany. Here's a link to the Amazon page:

https://www.amazon.de/einfacher-Plan...e+plan+blu-ray

It's an all-region disc and a nice transfer. No extras though.

I got my grub on but didn't pig out
Finally got a call from a girl want to dig out
Hooked it up on later as I hit the door
Thinking will i live another twenty four
I gotta go cause I got me a drop top
And if I hit the switch I can make Mulvaney's ass drop
