That's not what I was referring to. Hopefully I will have my computer back soon & can finally begin uploading videos again

Especially since Universal is starting to release catalog titles on UHD-BD. I suspect BREAKFAST CLUB will get a true 4k release in the next year or so.

Hmm, I didn't read it that way. I own it and think it's a wonderful release.

Certainly the movie itself isn't going to be for everyone. But I don't see any trouble with the release at all.

Well it had Lana Turner in so already had me interested

But I had already spent enough, done some blind buys on some more well known/must see films (Rashomon, M, Wings of Desire) so it was quite an easy pass. Will try to see it on the cheap first

Yeah. If Criterion is able to release Hughes' 3 hour cut then I will definitely triple dip.

Oh yeah, I can understand how it might not be a high priority for lots of people. Like the review here said, it's mostly going to appeal to fans of Veronica Lake (like me). The movie itself is enjoyable, certainly. But it's pretty light fare.

Yeah. That would be amazing. I've never seen that cut, just read about it. Would LOVE to have the chance to see it sometime.

You can quibble over the 0.01% interest I lost in pre-purchasing GC or the $25 yearly membership fee, so I won't argue if you add $0.15 per item to prorate the membership and interest lost per item purchased.

I did buy They Live By Night when it dropped to $15+ though it a better BN deal shows up I'll be well within the Walmart return period

As always though BN can offer better prices, I'll never fault anyone for buying Criterions when they dip below $18.20 or so which is the standard Criterion.com Flash sale price once you figure in their Loyalty points esp for most of the country that doesn't pay sales tax. Even better if they start regularly running the Double Points offers which would move the effective price to around 16.50 each.

I guess I'll never fault anyone from buying Criterions at any price as long as they don't complain they cost too much. If they want to pay $27+ to get it from Amazon Day 1 rather than waiting 2 months for the next sale, it doesn't bother me at all.
Good points. I hadn't thought about discounted B&N gift cards, but those do work for Criterions. I don't have a B&N membership. I let mine expire since I don't buy enough from B&N now to make it worthwhile. I do have an Amazon Prime account, though, so shipping is free for me. Obviously, if you have to pay for shipping, Amazon prices are much less attractive. YMMV, etc.

I didn't mean for this to become an Amazon vs. B&N debate. I'm glad that Amazon, and Walmart, are offering these sale prices on Criterions and that I don't have to wait for the usual B&N and Criterion semi-annual sales to get 50% or more off list. I hope this continues. So far this week I've picked up Two Lane Blacktop and Woman of the Year, both movies that I would have bought during the upcoming B&N sale. There are still about three more that I plan to pick up during the sale, unless those drop below the $20 mark as well.

As for sales tax, most states have a sales tax. Maybe you live in one of the five states that don't.

I have never understood the "buy on day one" philosophy. I am looking forward to finally owning Stalker, and I am fortunate that it is coming out during the sale. However, if it was being released in August after the sale, I would wait until a comparable sale came along before purchasing. My philosophy is that, for most of these films, I have already been waiting years for a blu-ray release, so waiting a few more months is not going to kill me. And that goes for all releases, not just Criterion blu-rays. For example, since I am region-free, I have had the BFI blu-ray of Emir Kusturica's Underground on my wish list. For the majority of this year, the price on Amazon UK has been 19.99 pounds. This morning, it went on sale for 8.99 pounds and I grabbed it immediately. I have not understood and will never understand the need to buy something on its first day on retail sale.

Some people have the money and don't want to wait. It's pretty simple.

Well, in the case of Rebecca for instance, when it's released I will get it day one. Don't care about price. It would drive me crazy knowing it's out there and I don't have it. It's one of my favorite movies.

I just had a thought. If Criterion were to do anymore editions of music videos from the one artist, what would they pick from. What music would fit right into the Criterion Collection? Personally, a compilation of Damon Albarn videos would be a great choice. Everything from Blur and Gorillaz would make a great set.

Rebecca day one because I feel the same about it as you do. Stalker day one because it looks absolutely mind-bending and I love that sort of thing and can't wait to watch it.

Radiohead - although they have released a best of video collection, Bjork - her videos need updating. Sigur Ros(Heima seriously needs a Blu upgrade & a companion disc with all the video would be perfect), Beck, Peter Gabriel (who Criterion have worked with on Last Temptation), Depeche Mode, R.E.M.

What I would prefer to see though are the Director's Label DVDs get upgraded to blu - Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry, Chris Cunningham, Jonathan Glazer, Anton Corbijn, Mark Romanek & Stephane Sednoui

Not from Criterion & I may get some flack for this but U2. Their first video collection is only available on VHS then they putout that crap incomplete 18 after the second video collecton. And we really need Under a Blood Red Sky on blu. Can't give a sh.t about what they do now tho, last good thing was ATYCLB

Possibly the finest promo video made. No CGI, no celeb cameos (*cough*jacko*cough*), just a fantastic song, great post editing & fantastic use of B&W - & I'm not really a radiohead fan
