It's similar to how that braying jackass Bret Easton Ellis wrote "American Psycho" and Mary Harron came in and gave the film a satirical, absurdist bent that wasn't anywhere near as present in the novel. Easton Ellis is a great novelist to adapt into film because his novels always contain the outline of intriguing ideas, but he consistently f**ks it up because he's just not that talented. You don't want to adapt novelists like Tom Wolfe, John Irving, or Kurt Vonnegut into film because they had/have immense talent.
I'm still surprised that Choke only has a German release, directed by Agent Coulson no less. I got my copy & love it. Rockwell & Huston are great in it

What I would prefer to see though are the Director's Label DVDs get upgraded to blu - Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry, Chris Cunningham, Jonathan Glazer, Anton Corbijn, Mark Romanek & Stephane Sednoui

Not from Criterion & I may get some flack for this but U2. Their first video collection is only available on VHS then they putout that crap incomplete 18 after the second video collecton. And we really need Under a Blood Red Sky on blu. Can't give a sh.t about what they do now tho, last good thing was ATYCLB

Possibly the finest promo video made. No CGI, no celeb cameos (*cough*jacko*cough*), just a fantastic song, great post editing & fantastic use of B&W - & I'm not really a radiohead fan

Radiohead - Street Spirit (Fade Out) - YouTube
Heima is unfortunately unlikely. The band decided not to release it on a blu a few years ago, instead offering an HD download version that was free to people who had the dvd already. They didn't want people who had already purchased the dvd to have to purchase it again to get a superior HD version. I believe the download version also contains some additional material that was not included in the initial 2dvd release.

I consider Brad Pitt's monologue regarding consumerism to be one of the best ever featured in a film.

FIGHT CLUB is pretty good. . . for a children's movie.

The trick to getting a reply from the Mulvaney account is not using a key word that would cause one of Mulvaney's many inbox rules to redirect the message to deleted items.

I remember thinking that Rockwell (and Houston, yeah) elevated Clark Gregg's somewhat lackluster direction. Most of it is so bland visually that it often felt like I was watching a sitcom. But someone like Rockwell is interesting pretty much no matter what he is doing. He has turned some downright trash into watchable films, at least in the scenes he is in.

You may not be a fan of it but Demme's Something Wild is a great summer film. I'm sure there are many others... I just wish Criterion could get a great new HD transfer of David Lean's Summertime.

Have you seen Oshima's Violence at Noon, from the Oshima Eclipse set? That film is the most summer film I've ever seen.

That's very kind of them but shouldn't it be up to the buyer whether they want to spend money or not?

Or High & Low? The bad guy in that movie does dastardly things because he's sick of the summer heat.

Except the deconstruction of the American Dream and other hedonistic and materialistic pursuits were pre-figured by at least 3 decades by a much more stylish and groundbreaking film called Seconds. Now there is a movie to recommend.

There you go. Another one is Stray Dog.

Also, I'll add The Apu Trilogy, Monterey Pop and The Music Room.

Il Sorpasso is another great one! I also really like saving La Dolce Vita for the summer, myself.

A MAN THERE WAS (1917) was once TCM last night with the Criterion and Janus logos before it.

You're referring to the 80s TV sitcom, correct?

How about releasing St. Elmo's Fire? There's another 80s film that is sometimes overlooked (but you can put that one alongside The Breakfast Club and The Big Chill).

Furthermore, I'm friends with the man who produced/wrote St. Elmo's Fire. He also wrote and produced Saved by the Bell! Carl Kurlander is that man. I met him in college in my last year in my Film Studies program and I worked with him on a number of websites for companies for about a decade.
