Looks like the 2 hours of extra footage gets its own BD, which I assume is also the case in the 2-disc Monterey Pop.

I think Beaver's description is confused. Hendrix and Redding appear in the main documentary, and their respective complete performances in the third disc of The Complete Monterey Pop Festival.
i believe that the Monterey Pop Festival film has abridged 'highlights' of each artist's set. In the old set, there was a separate disc containing "Jimi Plays Monterey" and "Shake! Otis at Monterey," which contains their full performances.

"Final Cut: The Making and Unmaking of Heaven's Gate" would have been incredible to have on that disc, but obviously Cimino would never have approved of that.

Stalker for sure, especially because it is such a high-profile title.

Yeah, and it's too bad (the doc wasn't quite as good as the book Final Cut, but it was still really good). I also read that a feature that discussed the real Johnson County War was also deleted from the Criterion edition.

Still, even a relatively weak Criterion edition is usually more loaded than a typical studio offering (although even Criterion can't compete with the Blade Runner 5-disc or the Wizard of Oz 70th anniversary edition).

Considering the titles I thought the special features for Gilda and The Palm Beach Story were quite disappointing.

[QUOTE=cropduster;14453412]Mill Creek released a blu-ray of 5000 Fingers of Dr T last June.

Yeah, I bought that one too and just traded it. I was kind of hoping it might be a Night of the Living Dead or a Dr Strangelove situation, but its probably wishful thinking on my part. Such a weird clue for Othello but I guess there have been weirder clues ...

I wonder why?

Or is it obvious, and I'm an idiot?

I like the idea of adding context but it's the last two days of finals...more later.

Blu ray list only, but special shout out to Beastie Boys Video Anthology. That thing is incredible!

Would also buy a Criterion release of Martyrs if they ever decide to release it since the US never got a blu-ray release.
Between this list and your recommendation, I'll make sure both films make it to the top of my filmstruck queue. Thanks!

I'm not sure there ever was an explanation. I'm guessing maybe because the movie took A LOT of liberties with the real historical event, and Cimino maybe didn't want the inaccuracy of his movie highlighted. According to the book Final Cut, the supposed "war" didn't really happen (or at least wasn't at all like the battle portrayed in the movie). And the real historical people upon which the characters were based weren't at all like their movie counterparts. I would guess that most moviemakers tackling historical events get irritated if their work is shown to be inaccurate.

6. Wings of Desire
7. La Jetée / Sans Soleil
8. The Complete Jean Vigo

BTW, the Dardenne brothers' film, The Unknown Girl, is now on Netflix.

I know what I'll be doing fairly soon.

Watching it now. It's very good so far.

Previously, I had only seen Two Days, One Night by them, which I thought was stunning. So, I was taking a break to make some tea and I saw that Rosetta, also by the Dardennes, had been released by Criterion. Off to Amazon I went, and now it will be mine by Friday. It sounds very intense, if the reviews are any indication.

I'm becoming a big fan of these two brothers' work, slowly but surely.

EDIT: Wow, that was something.

They will ship it to the UK for you, at cost. I enquired once and I think they suggested it would be about $20 via courier. You'd likely suffer VAT and import fees on top unless it falls below £15.

In the end I didn't need to take that option, as I had a trip to the States coming up and had it (A Hard Day's Night) delivered to the office (along with a bunch of disks from Amazon, so free shipping and only California taxes - oh happy days!).
