On Amazon Prime Video, the documentary Liv and Ingmar by Dheeraj Akolkar has Criterion branding on the cover. Wonder if that would be a part of a box set or a stand alone?

Like someone else said, Veronica Lake is gorgeous, so I enjoyed I Married a Witch which I purchased right after I had finished Sullivan’s Travels, which I also recommend. Veronica Lake actually was the reason I got my regionless player. I got The Glass Key and The Blue Dahlia which are only available on region B Blu Rays. With that said His Girl Friday is an all time classic, and is critically praised, and deservedly so because it is an excellent movie. However, I also love Only Angels have Wings and think it flys under the radar. It’s one of my favorite Criterion blind buys yet. You can’t go wrong with Howard Hawks and anything Criterion puts out that he directs I will buy. As gorgeous as Lake is, and as good as the other movie looks, which I haven’t seen, if forced to pick two I’d get both the Hawks films. Cary Grant is the man, and Hawks is a phenomenal director. |

Just watched The Uninvited expecting a very creepy scary horror movie. After all, Del Toro lists it as among the movies that have frightened him the most and Scorsese considers it among the scariest movies ever made.
Boy, was I wrong. The movie isn't scary and, in fact, isn't even remotely a horror movie. It's something like a whimsical melodrama almost-comedy film. I should add that the creepy Criterion coverart also provided a misleading impression of the movie. I really don't understand where Scorsese or Del Toro were coming from. I'll need to watch the movie again and take it on its own terms before I can say whether I like it or not but, just a heads up, don't make my mistake and buy this one when you're in the mood for a good horror movie. |

As does Del Toro on his list
![]() The Uninvited has a couple of good eerie scenes but yes, it is not a consistently spooky feature and even in those IMO is not in the same league as The Innocents or The Haunting when it comes to gothic scares. |

Maybe those directors saw The Uninvited in their childhood and it marked them.
And in that time there weren't possibly any spookier films..So... We are judging with our own criteria now, having seen more recent horror films. |

Everyone has an opinion, however there's a reason why Here Comes Mr. Jordan won Oscars for both the best original story and for the screenplay and why the film has inspired multiple remakes and inspired multiple other films and why it has always been critically acclaimed and considered a true classic. |

Janus Films is releasing the 4K restoration of Olivier Assayas' film Cold Water. I'll assume Criterion will be releasing it sometime this year. Last edited by CQD84; 02-09-2018 at 01:51 PM. |
