Speaking of High Sierra, I hope Criterion would release it as a double feature with Colorado Territory (also a Warner Bros. picture) à la The Killers or The Lower Depth. I can easily understand why High Sierra is regarded as such a classic and I like it too, but it feels a bit cheesy sometimes, especially with Ida Lupino's tarnished angel character (and the dog), which Raoul Walsh elaborated further in Colorado Territory, his own western remake of the same story. I watched them both in the theater twice, and always preferred the latter.
And speaking of Raoul Walsh, there's still no Blu-ray of The Roaring Twenties, which is a much bigger crime than what James Cagney does in the movie. Or They Drive by Night! Or Manpower! Last edited by latehong; 03-07-2018 at 03:18 AM. |

Roman Holiday simply needs to be in the Criterion Collection. It had been a long time since I’d seen it, but I watched it again this morning. Audrey Hepburn put me under a spell for two hours. |

Not every Blu-ray has a true HD transfer. Some are simply up-scales. I don't know about you but I wouldn't pay for a Blu-ray if it is simply a up-scale and comparing the DVD image to the Blu-ray image helps point this out.

If by "true HD transfer" you mean 2K or 4K then that's true. Although, many of the Criterion DVD releases feature a "restored high-definition digital transfer" which is down-rezzed for DVD. Unfortunately, some of the BR releases used the same transfer.

Me either. I would have thought WAC or Criterion. As much as I would have loved to have had a CC boxset, as long as the remaining titles are given nice restorations, I'll be happy no matter who releases them. That said, I still believe that I Walked With a Zombie and possibly The Body Snatcher will be Criterion titles.

I can see Scream doing a BEDLAM/ISLE double feature. What’s left? GHOST SHIP. . . . Huh. I think I bought the DVD set for the price I spent on CAT PEOPLE. |

Yeah, I like the whole set. They just don’t all feel like they’d be “appropriate” across the board with these labels. Though CURSE is probably the “least horror” of them all, and Scream announced it first, so who knows. I hope there are a few doubles, though. 200 bucks to upgrade all these is a lot. |
