T2 is better and more influential than lots of films that have been given the wacky C treatment. Not sure why it'd be such a travesty having it in the collection.

I don't know what the current state of affairs might be regarding T2 but weren't many of the PQ complaints the result of very deliberate 'grain management' decisions made by Cameron? I mean, I could be mixing up films now, it's been a few years but I don't think I am. And if that's the case is there any reason to think a Criterion release would be any more satisfying in that regard? edit: maybe I'm thinking of Aliens, actually. not sure now Last edited by octagon; 03-19-2018 at 12:34 AM. |

The Abyss is great until the ending, when it's not so great. But it is still a complete mystery why Cameron has resisted a BD release. The same with True Lies - which I think is his best film. Both big blockbusters that would seem like prime BD titles.

T2 would not do well for Criterion anyway. There have been multiple $5 Blu-ray releases of it already. Who would pay $20-$40 for it? Very few people IMO. I probably wouldn't. And I say that as an Arnie fan.
With that said, I'd love to see some of James Cameron's unreleased Blus get the Criterion treatment. |

Yeah, that means nothing. Absolutely nothing.
There was one previous Breakfast Club Blu-ray. The Criterion version has substantial extras, including never-before-seen deleted and extended scenes. True fans are obviously going to double-dip or make sure the Criterion version is the one they get. T2 is already on its third Blu-ray, and that's before Criterion. Not to mention, two of those previous Blus have been $5 a pop at various points. What can Criterion possibly add that we haven't gotten already? Not a damn thing to make it enticing enough to pay $20-$40. It's not going to happen anyway, and it shouldn't happen. |

Oh great. My Sony Blu-ray player suddenly won't play Region A discs. This is fun. I've tried every possible thing that I can think of, and nothing works. I tried contacting Sony -- Oh, that's fun.
Thankfully, the disc I want to watch, Ingrid Goes West, has a Digital Code. So I can watch it on my iMac. But my Blu-ray player not working is seriously bad. Obviously I clicked on something wrong. But I have no idea what it was, and no matter how hard I try to fix it, nothing goes right. Thankfully, I have vodka. Oh well. ETA: Oh, and I lost Twitter too. More fun. There would be no benefit to Criterion releasing James Cameron movies (other than maybe Piranha II) because Cameron is already personally involved in the release of most of his films. Do people here really think that Criterion (which bowed to Michael Mann's revisionist grading for Thief and Vittorio Storaro's Univisium AR for Last Emperor) is going to stand up to Cameron and say, "Hey Jim, we know you personally supervised the new sound mix but we're going to insist on adding the original mono mix. And would someone call George and tell him to hand over the reels of those unaltered Star Wars versions, we've had enough of his crap."
