Am certain all 4K restorations (and UHD releases) for Kubrick's major films like The Shining / Clockwork Orange / Full Metal Jacket will be done in-house by Warner themselves. Criterion got Barry Lyndon probably because Warner had poor sales of their previous BD and regard it as a less saleable prospect. The bigger question for blu-ray fans that have not upgraded to 4K is whether they will also release upgraded blu's or just bung in the older 1080p discs in their release package?

I just realized there's kind of a connection between Lonesome Roads and Billy Pueblo in HEARTS OF THE WEST. Billy could have been the version of Lonesome that Walter Matthau talks about at the end of FACE IN THE CROWD; humbled, but retaining a bit of larceny in his heart.

With any luck Criterion has nabbed the UK rights too since the existing Artificial Eye blu has been OOP for a while. Would be even sweeter if the UK get the Criterion In the Mood for Love also. If there's a box set forthcoming, maybe it will include Fallen Angels as well...

As the film progresses, and Noriko becomes trapped by the expectations and demands of her friends, family, society, and most of all, her father...the camera does not move again. Ozu is brilliant. A genius. Late Spring is one of the finest films ever made. |

The upcoming screening at the MoMA for the new restoration of Floating Weeds has sold out. It's the only movie so far from the Miyagawa Retrospective to have done so thus far.

Arrow are supposedly releasing a remastered version of it, at least in the UK, and that has people speculating that Criterion will release it in the states due to their ongoing relationship with Gilliam.

I saw Late Spring for the first time time in 2012. I was very moved, however, I have not watched it since, mainly because my Watch List has grown exponentially. I recall the bicycle scene made me feel like I was there with the characters. I sensed the sun and the gentle breeze as they pedaled. I genuinely felt transported. To top it off, there was a Coca-Cola advertisement from that time period (Japan several years after the end of World War II) that drew me more deeply into the story. It's a beautiful film! |

Love the fact that After Hours allows Cheech & Chong to rightfully claim that they worked with Martin Scorsese.

http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-43626593 The BFI set looks fantastic. Although I have three of the eight films already, it's a day one purchase for me. I am particularly excited that Look Back in Anger and The Entertainer are getting a BD release. If anyone else is considering placing a pre-order, the price direct from BFI is currently 10.00 GBP cheaper than Amazon UK. |

I’m still hoping Criterion picks After Hours up from the Warner deal and that the Italian release doesn’t mean anything US-wise and or is a false listing. I doubt Warner Archive could get any new extras or even Scorsese’s approval of a new transfer.
