I'm not exactly sure, though I can tell you that Night of the Living Dead went down to $17.24 for a while before it finally went up again.

not as yet, but the America Lost and Found Boxset is one of the best Criterion has done of american films well worth owning, especially with B&N Criterion 50% off sale next month. I got mine for less than 60.00 during one of the sales.

Been buying some of the cheaper Vudu movies to fill in some random gaps in my collection. As much as I like DVDs and BDs and all, I'm really torn when it comes to the movies I sorta like and don't mind watching but simultaneously don't care enough about to actually own on disc. It happens because I do go through phases where I thin out my collection and recklessly toss some forgotten titles into the sale pile, but then I wind up thinking back on them later. Digital is the better option for those imo--they're there if I genuinely do want to see them again, but they also don't suck up shelf space. If the Internet goes down, I won't be broken up about it--the movies I care about the most are still on the shelf.

On top of that, I've stumbled across some Vudu movies offered in HD that still haven't hit Blu-Ray yet (for some bloody reason). Regardless of the encode and bitrates and such, it is reasonably nice to see Mission to Mars, Evolution, and Roman Holiday in HDX.

All that being said, I'd never expect my digital collection to take the place of my physical one. It's there more as a backup option to me--ideal for watching stuff on the go and maybe revisiting a movie I used to have but sold off. But if it's something that genuinely moves or sticks with me, I'm probably going to want a disc--ideally, a UHD/BD combo pack loaded with extras in an autographed steelbook with a lenticular slipcover coated in glitter and sparkles in a small metal briefcase lined with foam with room for the movie's CD soundtrack, and...well you get the idea.

Incidentally, I have noticed some Criterion-grade titles for sale on Vudu, but they seemed fairly pricey. Would consider them just to back-up by physical collection, but my wallet is not ready to go that crazy yet. If Criterion went for a digital service, I'd probably bite on the titles I like, but would still prefer them to release physical (or better yet, physical with digital codes in them).

Speaking of Red Beard, I was thinking about dusting off Drunken Angel for this month's wishlist.

That pic they posted of the film canister still haunts me.

I totally agree to this. I dropped about $70 including taxes and shipping on this set a number of years ago and haven't regretted it yet. All of the film except 'Easy Rider' was a blind-buy and there wasn't a bad one in the bunch. Not to mention the wonderful features...

Well, I guess there won't be any Japanese upgrades this month.

Really miss the times when we would get a ton of Japanese films from Criterion.
