Everything you listed I ordered form B&N at 50% off, and I'm not a special member or anything.
Amazon price-matched the Dietrich set. You're right, though. I just took a look, and they're a little better this time around with regard to not having new releases strangely omitted from their website listings.

(I also could have saved an additional 10% by using B&N's "FIREWORKS" sale code.)

I'll wait it out, though. I wouldn't be surprised if the pre-order prices for the other single-disc titles are reduced even further by Amazon by the big day of release.

Say what? I pre-ordered July's SL&V with the 50% off price.

No, titles in the 50% off sale are not eligible for that coupon, I checked

Of course. Label newsletters are basically invitations to browse their collection and tempt you to pick some up, none of them would dream of charging for that.

Dead Man - $22.97
Bull Durham - $22.97
The Virgin Spring - $22.97
Sex, Lies and Videotape - $22.97
A Matter of Life and Death - $22.97
Dietrich & von Sternberg in Hollywood - $62.49
You can just order from the BN web site and get the full 50% off. Free shipping on orders over $25 (essentially any two titles). And they now include pre-orders for titles being released by the end of the sale

Others have already commented on this post but I just ordered Rebecca and Mildred Pierce from Barnes & Noble for $42.85 total shipped. I put the same two movies in the cart at Amazon (I'm a Prime member) and the total was $49.34 when tax was added. I'm not a big fan of B&N but when I can save over $6 on two movies I'll do it every day. Amazon lost their advantage when they started charging me taxes on their orders.

Just got back from my first B&N Criterion sale. Feels like a rite of passage.

I too purchased Beyond the Hills. It looks very intriguing. I love films that depict ones faith being tested and the predicament of religious dilemmas. The issues of possession and exorcism also sound promising. I'm not expecting full-on horror, but just the accusations sound delicious.

I also purchased The Virgin Spring.

I'm gonna have to go back and get El Sur. I had it in my cart but took it out. Please don't judge me for being a cheap bastard.

I’m so unbelievably sad to not be able to participate in this sale...
Removal of European Union Addresses from BN.com

Luckily, I can see that Amazon has (almost) price-matched their Criterion titles... at least for now.

Does anyone here know if it’s safe to expect Amazon’s prices to stay this low for the entire duration of the B&N sale or if I should get my order in quick?

I remember a year or two ago (or was it even longer?), Amazon had their own big summer(?) sale on Criterion releases. They haven’t made this a recurring thing that us Europeans should start holding out for, now that B&N has abandoned us...?

So far I've only ordered the Dietrich/Sternberg boxset.

Not quite sure what else to get apart from a few wishlist titles.

Maybe, I'll finally buy that awesome Zatoichi boxset...

Seems the above quote answers my question but just double checking, you DO NOT have to be a B&N member to take advantage of this sale correct ? I am dreading the word YES (or rather I should say my bank account/wallet are dreading a yes)... So many titles i really want to add to my collection in this sale ugh....

I'm not a member and I ordered several titles with the discount and free shipping. Would have ordered more but Amazon has the same price on some of the multi-movie collections and I have credit saved up there.

I ordered 6 Criterions from Amazon in May-June, so I went easy this time and only bought 2: Dietrich & von Sternberg in Hollywood and The Age of Innocence.

Amazon

1/2 price gets me every time ! Didn't think I'd ever get this highly rated upgrade, because the Complete DVD set ran me $59 back in 2008, and the combination of not really getting my money back when I sell it, plus this 2017 BD upgrade being expensive wasn't very attractive.

Thank you Amazon !

My picks:

All blind buys with the exception of Seven Samurai. I'm still really tempted on grabbing Haxan on dvd, but still holding out for a blu-ray. Going back for another round in the next few weeks.

I'm over budget (have been all year, basically), so I had to restrain myself to these two. Still a pretty god chunk of change.

Hmm, when I try to filter it only gives me the options of "genre", "director", "year", and such. No "format" option - sometimes it's just a blank page. Maybe it's because I'm on a phone, I'll try again later using your guides, thank you!
