EDIT: Actually, now that I think of it, the upgrade I most want is Fellini's I Vitelloni. But the Bergman trilogy is a close second. Other upgrades I really want (of titles they still have rights to): Viridiana La Strada Written on the Wind Magnificent Obsession Knife in the Water Simon of the Desert Last edited by CinemaBlu; 07-02-2018 at 07:00 AM. |

Also, hopefully, we could see The Man Who Laughs come to Blu as Universal recently restored it. https://prod3.agileticketing.net/web...-af16bcbe6fc6& |

I would also add if you get Wings, I would strongly suggest The Big Parade which is one of the finest WW1/anti-war films ever. Anyway speaking of a silent film that really needs a BluRay release is Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse which was had a Photoplay restoration.

Hi,
as an avid Criterion fan ever since the Laserdisc days I've been reading this forum for years now but never got around to posting anything. I'm living in Germany and am somewhat dependent on the bianual B&N sales to get my collection up to date. So I was a little shocked when somebody on this forum posted that B&N is no longer shipping to the EU. I tried to order anyway, and lo and behold, they're now starting to ship my discs! So fellow EU collectors, don't despair because maybe they are just not shipping to new European customers. I've been a member for years and that might of course be the reason why they still deliver to my place (or maybe they don't want to pass on my order of 30 discs). Anyway, just wanted to let you know. |

Yes, I own both the Criterion & the BFI. Eyes Without a Face and Wages of Fear are 2 more titles where the BFI beats Criterion.

Battleship Potemkin The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari City Lights Faust The Freshman The Gold Rush The Holy Mountain (1926) L'Inhumaine Lodger: Story of the London Fog The Lost World Mabuse: The Gambler Man with a Movie Camera (includes some shorts too) Metropolis Modern Times Die Nibelungen Nosferatu Passion of Joan of Arc Safety Last! Speedy Strike The Testament of Dr. Mabuse (available overseas, region-B only) Thief of Bagdad (1924) A Trip to the Moon Wings Woman in the Moon There are shorts out for Chaplin and Buster Keaton too. Not sure if I'm a big enough fan though. Never did see The General, but that's supposed to be hot stuff too. Pretty sure silent versions of Ben Hur and Wizard of Oz can be seen as extras on their respective remakes, special edition Blu-Rays. Might not all be high-def though. Intolerance and Destiny are must-sees, but I'm not a fan of them personally. Blind bought The Phantom Carriage this sale cycle, which is a silent one. Hope it's good! All of these listings of Silent Films and not one mention of The Phantom Carriage ? Shameful. One of the best films in the collection.
Edit** I see Al_The_Strange mentioned picking it up. It's a great film! Wouldn't mind more Victor Sjöström films in the collection. Plus I love the alt soundtrack it's just so creepy. Would love to hear some first time impressions after you watch it. If even just a thumbs up or down. Last edited by Banned User; 07-02-2018 at 05:22 PM. |

All this talk of silent movie classics and I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Battleship Potemkin. The Odessa steps scene has been copied and parodied, but the original is still powerful film-making by a director who influenced generations.

The Film Forum has released their new calendars for August - November, and there's a couple of Janus releases included:
Fists in the Pocket - New 4K restoration Complete Jean Vigo - New 4K restorations Wings of Desire - New 4K restoration Additionally there's a new 4K resto of Chinatown, which I feel has Criterion's name all over it. |

If you go to the product page of a Criterion title, it states that you temporarily cannot use a coupon on it during the sale.
